Last night was the biggest, bigger than Cincy. We knew that 2003 team was good and had gone to the tourney the year before. Yesterday was a reminder of what our program can be. In 2003, we knew we were on the top-3 seed lines. Going into last night, some thought we weren't even yet a tournament team.

It was both. We stormed for #4 Cincy in 2002 when they were 20-1 and had won 20 straight games as well as pretty much every CUSA title ever, then we stormed in 2003 when we beat an unranked Bearcat team on the final day to clinch the title. Joe McCann referenced both of them in this article:

EDIT: And I'd agree with panther, Villanova was on par with 2002 Cincy. Similarly, it was an announcement of the program being back, of Marquette being legit,
