    Assembly vote on new arena

The Milwaukee Journal is reporting that the Assembly vote on the new area is scheduled for July 28, Tuesday of next week. Per the story, Republicans control the Assembly 63-36 but need about 15 Democratic votes to get to 50. Also, there is a Milwaukee Common Council special primary election today and State Sen Tim Carpenter is running. He voted no in the Senate. Because of what the City is kicking in, they Common Council needs to approve the arena too, so if he wins the election, the arena faces a tougher road in the Common Council. Sigh.

The City would be absolute morons to turn this deal down. It costs them near nothing. A garage that is going to be bonded and paid by parking proceeds (split 50/50 with the Bucks), and a TIF district that the City is going to use anyway.

I can see the County getting upset. But the City? That would be stupidity.
