    Duke to Marquette player?

I'm getting older and my memory isn't what it once was so I need some help. Back in the 1960s Coach McGuire had a transfer player come in from Duke. He started in the backcourt until the Christmas break. Over the holiday he got married and never returned to the team. When asked by reporters McGuire said, "it must have been one hell of a honeymoon."

I think the players name was Gene Bromstad or something like that. Anyone remember?

    Edit: I found him. http://news.google.com/newspapers?ni...g=1564,4495632

I may be wrong, but I believe that McQuade was very highly rated coming out of high school, possibly even a Top 100 recruit - nowhere near Dean, of course, who was ranked the #1 point guard in his class.

As for Bromstad, man, I don't remember him at all.

Not sure if Terry McQuade was quite Top 100 out of HS, probably more like 125-150 in "today's" rankings. Despite having good shooting and rebounding skills, Terry rarely got off the bench (defense was an issue). Left the team after his junior year after a disagreement with Al. Graduated and stayed in the Milwaukee area and worked in banking as a real estate lender. Nice guy.

Don't remember much about Bromstead either. Had totals of 41 points and 23 rebounds.
