OT: Emmanuel Mudiay will not play at SMU

    Sounds like Brandon Jennings.

Wow...huge blow for SMU. He had to be the main reason so many had them as one of the favorites in the CAA this year.

Yep. Still will be a force in the AAC this year, but SMU will not be nearly the national name now.

Oh yeah...AAC...I can't keep that straight

""I was excited about going to SMU and playing college basketball for Coach Brown and his staff and preparing for the NBA, but I was tired of seeing my mom struggle," Mudiay's brother, Stephane, said in quotes his brother provided to SI.com. "And after sitting down with Coach Brown and my family, we decided that the best way for me to provide for my mom was to forgo college and pursue professional basketball opportunities."

Give Brown credit. Do you suppose he would have had to worry about supporting Mom if he was a one-and-done at Kentucky, or a few other places, like Duke for example? It also seems that Brown did not try to twist his arm too hard. He might well have told the kid to take the money and run.

So...is Mudiay's brother still on scholarship there? Didn't that come as a seeming-package deal?

Shocking. The Pony Express must have been out bid.

From what I read, he was going to have some eligibility issues. His grades were fine, but the diploma factory for a high school he attended is apparently under investigation so his credits may not have been accepted by the NCAA.

That doesn't surprise me at all. He went to Prime Prep, which was the sports factory funded by Deion Sanders, as I recall. They've had a ton of issues and at one point seemed close to imploding. Seems the epitome of everything bad about prep schools (not saying all prep schools are bad, but the negative reputations come from places like this).
