2013 Las Vegas Summer League Primer - SI

    What is it?
Las Vegas Summer League is a loosely organized, guard-dominated, defense-optional series of scrimmages between NBA teams with rosters made up mostly of rookies, second-year players, undrafted players and players who are currently plying their trade overseas. It’s simultaneously a showcase for high draft picks entering their rookie seasons and an extended tryout for fringe NBA players who are hoping to fill out a roster on a minimum deal.

I know DJO is playing for the Nuggets, but drawing a blank on VB and DB? Is Jerel only playing for the Jazz so he won't be there?

I wonder why part of his description mentions "defense-optional". I would assume that coaches and scouts want to assess guys D as well. Please no "NBA doesn't play defense" stuff - that has been a 30+ years myth.

    Some quality 2012 lottery guys.

Not that he will be earning a spot, but good to see Liam McMorrow on the Knicks' summer league roster.

I saw him play yesterday for a bit - he is a freakin' giant and looks freakishly strong. He had a nice fast break bucket where he was fouled - not sure if he made the basket though. He seemed pretty nimble.
