Marquette’s Steve Taylor Jr. Undergoes Knee Surgery

Freshman Forward Expected Back In Time For Preseason Workouts

Milwaukee – Freshman forward Steve Taylor, Jr. of the Marquette University men’s basketball program underwent elective surgery to his right knee in order to remove a benign growth on Wednesday morning.

Surgery was conducted by Dr. Ted Gertel, MD, the team’s orthopaedic surgeon, at Aurora Sinai Medical Center. The estimated recovery time is 3-4 months and the successful procedure addressed an issue that had existed for a number of years.

Taylor is expected to be released from the hospital Friday afternoon.

The Chicago, Ill., native appeared in all 35 games off the bench in 2012-13, posting averages of 3.0 points and 2.1 rebounds per game. He shot 53.1 percent from the field and nearly half of his total rebounds came at the offensive end. MU finished the year 26-9 overall and reached the Elite Eight for the first time since 2003.

Ouch. Will lose most of his development time this summer. Good luck, Steve.

I thought someone was saying that it was his shoulder that was the issue. In any event, major bummer.
