Extremely saddened by the passing of Greg "Pope" Johnson, one of the great personalities in #mubb history & a fixture on the @MarquetteU campus his entire life. Details on services being confirmed.

    Pope Johnson passed away

Most colorful #mubb alum. I really liked him. Knew him since college. He had a a difficult post college life but he regained his footing and got his degree almost 35 years after the fact. Super friendly guy. Had a great high school career at Pius XI and had big MU expectations but never really met his potential. He did like to party. He would go to The Rec Center and dive from diving board doing flips and twists--just a tremendous athlete. His frosh roommate at McCormick was Maurice Lucas--Charlie Pierce lived next door. Very sad. Too young.

Golfed with him in Bo's outing two years ago, great guy. Sad news indeed.

Played mostly against him in scores of pick-up games in the Rec Center - seemed like he lived at the Rec Center. He certainly gained a lot of lbs. since then - remember him being more on the wiry side at the Rec Center.

Did he do his laundry right off the Gym Bar too - for some reason I have that memory too.

One of his favorite things to do, or his signature move, was when someone would sneeze...

    "Bless you!"

    "Thank you."
