As far as "best returning guard in the conference hands down" I would take Cartwright over Brunson. If I imagine Cartwright playing point on last year's Nova team, I think the Wildcats might have been even better than they were. Of course, we'll never know.

Point guards are more than just assists per game. That's why Brunson is the superior player by a wide margin.

Cartwright is not more than assists per game. Passing is his only above average skill.

For the record, Brunson averaged roughly 1 shot per 3.3 minutes; Cartwright averaged 1 shot per 3.5 minutes.

(Markus averaged 1 shot per 2.5 minutes, and Rowsey averaged 1 shot per 2.9 minutes.)

The teams play at different tempos. Marquette's average possession length is more than a full second faster than PC, which is more than a full second faster than Nova. Marquette averaged 6 more possessions per game than Nova. Not an equivalent comparison.
