Mo Watson out for the year

Creighton point guard Maurice Watson announced that he has suffered a torn ACL. Was leading the nation in assists.

So much for the ligaments being OK...

First off, I'm absolutely gutted for Watson. Great player, one of the most exciting in college basketball, and huge to what Creighton does. That said, it's also big news for us, especially as we're the first team they will play post-Watson. I imagine Khyri Thomas and Isaiah Zierden will split point duties. I'm still worried about what Patton can do to us, but I'd have to think this helps our chances. Certainly makes Saturday more interesting in a game I didn't think we had any shot in (I felt it was the least likely of the three in this stretch we could win).

I think it doubles our chances to win on Saturday...from about 5% to about 10%.

The good news for Watson is ACL repair these days isn't what is was in the 1970s. I hate to hear this and think how would I feel if it was a Marquette star player?

Similar to Dominic James senior season when he had that foot fracture at the BC against UConn.

Season-ending injury to a star player on a great team, the nightmare scenario. I wish Watson could get another year if he wanted it...just seems unfair.

Good grief the headline on Fox Sports seems to be rubbing salt into the wound, even though likely true.

Feel for Creighton and Maurice Watson Jr. He was maybe the best PG in the country. Horrible news.

Totally sucks. We Marquette fans are probably the one fan base that knows exactly how they feel.

As for Saturday, I think playing them the first game after this news is the worst time. The players and fans are going to be really fired up. Watson is going to be on the bench with a towel waving it and getting the kids fired up. Players are going to be ready to go and giving it their all knowing that their best player is down.
