Jersey Guy - Not Happy With Butler

In his latest installment, Mark Blaudschun is not too happy with Butler belonging to three different leagues in three years.

My response to Mark would be - if you were Butler wouldn't you accept an invite to the new league? If they declined in order to appease the less prestigious A-10 and make less money, etc would that make sense to their students, alumni, fans and players? Wouldn't that be a disservice to the school? Would they ever get another invite if they did turn this opportunity down? Who knows? Plus, other schools are leaving the A-10 such as Xavier and possibly St. Louis, Richmond, Dayton and VCU soon. Better take the opportunity while it is there.

As Billy Joel would say. "We didn't start the fire". Nope, not basketball schools. It was Commisioners John Swofford and Jim Delany who did by stealing Blaudschun's beloved BC, Va Tech and Miami; plus the Big Ten stealing Nebraska. The "beat has gone on" since then (including the old Big East) and its now every school for itself. Charles Darwinism in college sports. Personally, I wish it were different but that's the reality we live in today.

Blaudschun should be looking at root cause of this money grabbing by the super conferences more than having dislike for the actions of a small school like Butler as being "money hungry".

His blog introduction is that he talks sports and mouths off. He is mouthing off nonsensically here. Marquette has now been in five different leagues and each move was an upgrade and key next step (and Big East we are joining is much superior to the America 12 we just left behind). Butler has taken two key steps up and now belongs to a high-major conference after being a high-major program the last decade or so.

You turn down these opportunities at your own peril. Enough said.

Exactly. And they are following through with the obligations outlined in their contract each step of the way. I mean Butler had been a founding member of the MCC (Horizon). It's not as though they have some deep history of conference instability.

They left behind a nice parting gift for the Horizon with their NCAA credits from 2 championship games.
