Pomeroy says that was 2003. We didn't play our last conference game against Cincy in 2002 and we finished 2nd that year.
It was both. We stormed for #4 Cincy in 2002 when they were 20-1 and had won 20 straight games as well as pretty much every CUSA title ever, then we stormed in 2003 when we beat an unranked Bearcat team on the final day to clinch the title. Joe McCann referenced both of them in this article:

2001-2002 season 11am sold out game. #4 Cincinnati. I remember the image with Wade with the American flag. Later that afternoon, the Bucks played the 76ers on NBC for a 4:30pm game. That was the year after the Game 7 ECF. Another sold out crowd.
