women's bb schedule

Pigging back in what Stu Jackson changed in the men's schedule, someone changed the women's format to a Friday/Sunday format. I think this is a slamdunk move! I'm willing to attend some games as this falls on by far the slowest days in the men's game.

Certainly good for travel purposes as well. Though it could be hard for academic scheduling with 9 Fridays away.

4 Friday league games are away. 5 league away games are on a Sunday.

This used to be a very common way to schedule. The Pac 12 Men's basketball still travels this way. For instance, if you go to Oregon on a Thursday, you are then at Oregon State over the weekend. Stanford/Cal, UCLA/USC, etc.

When I was a kid, this is exactly what the Big Ten did as well. Each team had a travelling partner (they didn't travel together). So Wisconsin and Northwestern would go play at Michigan and Michigan State on Thursday, then each would travel to the other on a Saturday. They went through the schedule like this (with their game against the other occurring on a weekend with no Thursday game), and then they reversed the schedule and the H/A for the second half of the season.

It worked great in C-USA. And the teams typically worked pretty well together. They generally tried to make it easy on each other. Cinci came into Milwaukee, played Friday night, and scheduled their trip down to Chicago on Saturday after practicing Saturday morning at the Al. It makes your schedule predictable, and class disruptions are easier to handle. You can count on the team being out of town every other weekend.

Works really great in old Pac 10 as there were two schools close in most locations, like short driving distance close. Two in Oregon, Washington, Arizona, NoCal, and SoCal. Utah and Colorado aren't real close, but I'd guess make for decent travel partners.
