• Athletic Director opening now public

Milwaukee Athletics has finally opened the Athletic Director job to the public after weeks of keeping it a private search. This morning the job was posted on NCAA Jobs as well as the UWMPanthers.com website.

Back on November 13th, we broke the news to PantherU Premium Subscribers that the university had opened up its search, but only internally inside the UW System. The opening was there for a little over a week and then dropped off the day of the UALR game, as the university had decided to go external with the search and had been waiting for after Thanksgiving to re-open the search.

At that time the university was mulling over whether or not to scrap the entire search and start over or just expand the current internal search.

During the first two weeks, sources had told PantherU that the front-runners inside the UW System were UW-Whitewater AD Paul Plinske as well as UW-Stevens Point AD Daron Montgomery, who was Associate AD recently at Detroit.

Well, the position is now out there. The link: Director of Athletics for Milwaukee job opening

Andy Geiger will remain on staff throughout his contract. Once the new AD is on the job, Geiger will move into a position of fundraising and helping the new AD get his or her feet wet.

The Search and Screen Committee will begin evaluating on January 2nd and will continue doing so all the way until they fill the position.

The basic requirements: This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree (Advanced Degree preferred) and
progressively responsible professional experience as an athletic administrator within an
    intercollegiate athletics department.

Milwaukee is searching for its sixth athletic director since June of 2009. Bud Haidet's retirement came only a couple months after his replacement, George Koonce, was hired. Koonce eventually resigned under foggy circumstances. He was followed by Dave Gilbert of the UWM Foundation on an interim basis, during which time Carlos Santiago departed as chancellor to take over the Hispanic College Fund. Gilbert stepped aside when the university hired Rutgers Deputy AD Rick Costello. Costello was ousted after a scandal involving former men's soccer coach Chris Whalley. A couple of months passed before the university hired Geiger.
