• Trinson White commits to Milwaukee

In the half hour before the beginning of the intrasquad scrimmage Tuesday night, head coach Rob Jeter and the Milwaukee Panthers received a commitment from 2013 wing Trinson White. The news was broken by Indian Hills Community College, then picked up by Mark Miller of WisSports.net.

A native of Milwaukee, White played high school ball with Riverside University High School just blocks from UWM. He had been recruited by Milwaukee out of high school, but went the junior college route.

White is the fourth scholarship player who will begin play in the 2013-14 season, joining Cody Wichmann, Brett Prahl, and Steve McWhorter. Brett's twin Alex will be joining the Panthers as a preferred walk-on.

In White, the Panthers find a wing player to move into the three spot next season to help cover the loss of Demetrius Harris, which after tonight looks like a wider hole than most thought.

Insider Scouting Report: The book on White is a good one. Trinson is a legitimate 6'5'' wing who is good enough to play the 1, 2 and 3 spots at the Division I level. He is a very strong athlete, which helps him do a pretty good job of posting up defenders. He can pass out of the post or along the perimeter, and his handles are much more skilled than the typical mid-major player of his height.

Trinson's biggest benefit is no doubt his defensive abilities. He is as good a defender as Ryan Allen, and it shows in his play. He employs a very physical style defense that can overpower guards. Add in the fact that he is one of the quickest defenders moving laterally, and Trinson White embodies a player who will be an immediate lock down defender on Day 1 for any opposing player at the 1, 2 or 3 position. White is on the thin side, so against teams that employ a traditional small forward of stronger build, White will probably guard the opponent's 1 and 2 player. In any case, White looks to be the guy guarding the #1 scoring guard from the opposing team every night.

With the commitment of White, Milwaukee is left with two open scholarships for the 2013 recruiting class. The inside edge on those scholarships go to the Soukup twins from Danville, Iowa, big scoring guards. They could also go to Mo Evans and Garrett Hall, a point guard and shooting guard from Cathedral, Indiana who just had their recruiting visit this past weekend. Even still, the Panthers may hold those two scholarships to try and pick up higher profile recruits than were available even Tuesday morning; the commitment of Trinson White definitely opens the eyes of some recruits who may now consider Milwaukee a legitimate program with White in the fold.

With all the news tonight, we've decided to postpone the preview of the Northern Iowa "Spying the Enemy" until tomorrow. To not extend the previews into the season, the previews for UNI and Buffalo will be released together.
