• Whiz Kids Playoffs Matchups Set

Thursday, at MSOE, the Whiz Kids League will crown a champion for 2012. And the field of eight teams are pretty
good. Three of those teams will be in the conversation of winning the WIAA State Div. 1 championship in 2013.

There's defending champion Germantown, who should add some athleticism to their lineup to compliment Luke Fischer and Jake Showalter, at least that was based on what I saw in the final week of regular season competition at the Kern Center this week.

Milwaukee Riverside has the size in the post with the thin and rangy D'Andre Downey and wide-bodied center Ravonn Posey. There are some other pieces that will step right in and contribute next season. Milwaukee Vincent will consist of Deonte Burton and, if he can stay out of foul trouble, Demetrius Woodley and other spare parts that coach Marquis Hines will mold into tough defenders and winners.

Based on the playoff matchups, June 26, the championship game may come down to Vincent and Germantown. The Warhawks trailed at the half in their game against the Vikings but came back to give Vincent their only loss in the league.

The other teams in the playoffs, Homestead, Sheboygan North, Milwaukee King, Brookfield Central and East Troy won't be the final two survivors. But you never know if an upset is brewing, so don't count out the underdog.

    Here are the playoff matchups:

    Homestead vs. East Troy
    Vincent vs. Sheboygan North
    Germantown vs. Broookfield Central
    Riverside vs. King
