• Sources close say CBI "almost a done deal"

A source close to the situation said Thursday that Milwaukee is "almost a done deal" to play in the College Basketball Invitational. A second source confirmed that, and elaborated that the only way Milwaukee would not accept a bid to the CBI is if the program were to bring in an NIT bid.

In all likelihood, however, the NIT will pass on Milwaukee, in which case the Panthers are ahead of the curve and proactive in trying to find a spot in the CBI. They are not the only team; Indiana State has already accepted a bid to the CIT, and

The sources did not tip as to whether or not the Panthers would play in a home game, but definitely said it was a possibility. Possible opponents were not given either, although rumors abound that Minnesota could be playing at the Klotsche Center.

Last season, Milwaukee lost a first-round NIT game after picking up the automatic bid by securing the Horizon League's regular season championship.

Milwaukee has not played in either tertiary tournament, the 24-bid CIT or 16-bid CBI. The CBI is different from the other three postseason tournaments in that its final is actually a three-game series.

We'll make a ton of calls and try to construct a bracket if we can by Sunday.
