• Big weekend for Marquette, Milwaukee and Wisconsin

Up North Snowmobiling? Here is a rundown of what you missed this weekend......

    Milwaukee Bucks/NBA

It was NBA All-Star Weekend so the Bucks had the weekend off. So, what happened over All-Star Weekend? Here is all you need to know.
Utah’s Jeremy Evans won the Slam Dunk Contest, but Bleacher Report called it the worst Slam Dunk Competition ever.

Kobe Bryant led the West to a 152-149 victory, but Dwyane Wade broke Kobe's nose with a flagrant foul.

    Kevin Durant won the MVP.

    Now on to college hoops....

It was a crazy weekend in college hoops. Top 25 losses....

    • #3 Missouri lost to #5 Kansas 87-86 in OT.
    • #9 Ohio State lost to #15 Wisconsin.
    • #11 Florida lost to Georgia 76-62.
    • #13 Michigan lost to Purdue 75-61.
    • #16 Florida State lost to Miami 78-62.
    • #18 Notre Dame lost to St. John's 61-58.
    • #21 New Mexico lost to TCU 83-64.
    • #22 Temple lost to St. Joe's 82-72.

    On to the locals....

    Milwaukee Panthers

Rob Jeter's Panthers beat Loyola on Saturday 78-69. It was a huge day for senior Tony Meier, not only did Meier put up 26 points on 6-9 shooting, he also recorded his 1,000th point as a Panther. He made an interesting comment post game that kind of sums up the landscape for college hoops right now, "This day and age most people don't stick around at a college for four years, they end up transferring or start out at a Juco, so just the opportunity to play at the same school for four years is pretty special." Congrats Tony!

The win locked up the #4 seed for Milwaukee in the Horizon League Tournament, and they begin play Tuesday night at home in the Klotsche Center against UIC. Tip off is slated for 7:00pm.

As always, students are admitted FREE with a valid ID. Plus, all UWM students in attendance will receive FREE pizza and a FREE t-shirt! Tickets for non UWM students are only $10!

If the Panthers are able to beat UIC, they take on the winner of the Wright State ~ Butler game on Friday at 7:30 AT VALPO!

Good luck to Rob Jeter's crew, especially seniors Ryan Allen, Tony Meier and Kaylon Williams!

    Marquette Golden Eagles

Marquette Coach Buzz Williams had his hands full this weekend. Just prior to tip off against West Virginia, Buzz suspended four players for portions of the game. Darius Johnson Odom, Junior Cadougan and Vander Blue were all suspended for the first half, while Todd Mayo sat the second half. Fortunately for MU, Jae Crowder was his usual self and led the team to a 61-60 come from behind victory. Crowder's 27 points have created a lot of buzz.....

    • ESPN's Fran Fraschilla: "A year ago it was "Jae who?" Now is it "Jae Crowder, Big East Player of the Year?"

    • ESPN's Jay Bilas: "Marquette's Jae Crowder: 56 points on 19 of 28 shooting in last two games against UConn and Rutgers. Crowder is a pro. Marquette is GOOD."

    • CBS' Jeff Borzello: "By the way, Jae Crowder = Big East POY."

    • CBS' Gary Parrish: Responding to Borzello, "I'm down with this."

Hearing the stadium pump in John Denver's 'Country Road' after the game while walking across the court on his way to the table for a TV interview, Buzz Williams danced a two step which set the WVU student section into fits of rage. Andrei Greska from Paint Touches breaks it down.

Right now the Golden Eagles are locked in with a double bye in the Big East Tournament and alone in 2nd place in the Big East. With Georgetown and Ohio State losing this weekend, the Golden Eagles could move up as high as #8 in the nation. Next up the squad travels to Cincinnati on Wednesday. Always tough to beat a team on their senior night, the game is at 7:00 on ESPN.

Big East Note: UConn coach Jim Calhoun, who I thought may have been done for good due to medical reasons, vows a return to the court March 3rd after returning from surgery.

    Wisconsin Badgers

The Wisconsin Badgers pulled a HUGE upset on Sunday when Jared Berggren drained a three in the final minute beating #8 Ohio State 63-60. The win put Wisconsin up a notch in the Big 10 standings, with two games left that are both considered 'winnable', the Badgers could be looking at one of the top four seeds in the conference tournament.

Buzz Williams wasn't the only one dancing this weekend, Badger coach Bo Ryan did a little dancing of his own in the locker room after knocking of the Buckeyes. CBS' Matt Norlander is trying to figure out exactly what Bo was doing.

    Preps

The high school state playoffs start next week, and BrewCityBall kicked off our prep coverage this weekend as we introduced Troy Sparks, our new Prep writer. Troy took a look at the D1 bracket, and will have a more in depth breakdown later today.

The brackets for all 5 divisions can be found below...

    Mark Miller from WisSports.net
makes his predictions for the first round of the tourney.

    Have a great week!!
