Traci Carter
Haanif Cheatham
Luke Fischer

San Jose State

Had to do a double take when I saw freshman Cody Schwartz from De Pere in their starting lineup. How in the world did he end up at San Jose State?

Marquette starting off with another good shooting night, 5-9 so far with 3-4 from three.

Sandy Cohen's career high entering tonight was 12. He scored 17 in less than 8 mins. That's pretty wild. #mubb up 26-7 with 11:59 til half.

Highlight so far tonight: text from IWB calling John Cahill (who runs like a girl) Pat Driscoll (who we love fr calling the national championship game like a Big East game thereby ensuring a Rodent loss)

Yes indeed, I said Driscoll. Hard to get the two confused, don't know how I made that mistake.

Way too close in my opinion. Started out on fire, seem to have drifted a bit. Have been giving it up on the boards the last 6-7 minutes.

MU's zone offense need work.....especially with Henry on the bench.

Brutal last 10 minutes

Watching on tv and they had Doc Rivers on for several minutes. Spoke about how he talks to Wojo all the time and is excited for the team. They also asked if there is one place he goes whenever he is back in town and he said, "Real Chili". A good alum!!!!

Young team playing like it tonight. Nothing out of Cheatham or Carter. Zone has really changed the game for SJS

Cody Schwartz thought he was going to get a monster jam - Luke Fischer disagreed. Play of the night.

I don't get fs2, but just checked on my phone. Didn't Sandy start out like 5/5 from 3 and now we're 8/22. Why do we insist on shooting so many threes?

The San Jose coach resembles a slimmer Buzz Williams.

Thanks as I said I'm not watching. However going against a defensive zone and collapsing on our bigs still shouldn't result in almost 50% of our fgs being treys.

No it shouldn't.

Most of the 3 attempts have come from good ball movement and inside out basketball. Every time they gotten into the paint defense has collapsed.

It's the default response to a zone. The SJS zone combined with major first half foul trouble (Ellenson, Carter, and Cheatham all with two in the first 10-12 minutes) totally killed our rhythm and it was never totally regained (through this last stretch between the under eight and under four timeout at least salted the game away).

While the overall shooting percentage isn't great, they have been shooting better in the second half than they did in the first half.

1st Half: 15-39 38.5% 7-19 from 3pt 36.8%

2nd half: 11-27 40.7% 4-9 from 3pt for 44.4%

Game: 26-66 39.4% 11-28 from 3pt for 39.3%

MU 80 - San Jose State 62

MU up 80-60. SJS launches a long three as time winds down, misses big time. MU does not go after the rebound, so SJS gets the lazy putback as the clock expires. Result? 18 pt points pread is a PUSH!

I don't think Wojo will be all that happy but this was a much better opponent then the last 2.

Got nothing out of Cheatham or JJ

Sounds like a mediocre effort on the whole (could not watch cause my internet sucks), but I like that the team put the game away there in the second to last segment of the game. They let SJS back into the game for a good 20+ minutes, but pulled away before it could get real dangerous in the end. We know that Haney, Traci, and even JJ are capable of playing much better, and will have to get out of Madison with a win.

it shouldn't be. Way too many soft spots in a zone that should be exploited prior to shooting the trey.

I agree with you, but that's what happens when is a team is out of rhythm. Settles for threes and does not move the ball enough.

Didn't see the whole game, but Duane had a motor running hard the times I saw him in the game. Rebounding, pushing the ball up, driving to the basket, moving the basketball.

Sandy was in foul trouble so he sat for a bit. Duane had a nice game. Henry too when he focused on the inside. Luke may have been the best of the bunch.

Markedman

Duane had 7 rebounds and hit 4 out of 9 threes. Only 1 turnover.

Henry had a nice 2nd half.

MU has to be able to play defense without fouling.

Wojo said on the post game that he felt they relaxed a little after getting out to the big early lead.

They thought it was going to be like the last 2 games but SJS was having none of it. They switched to zone....slowed the game down...Henry, Cheatham and Sandy had to sit with 2 fouls and they clawed back into it.

The runners were not falling for HC. Nothing to worry about.

JJJ looked soft tonight. Bad passes, got pushed around underneath.

MU missed quite a few shots at the rim. I though the game was more physical then most we have seen this year.

Anybody know what Traci said to get the T? Sure didn't look like much of a taunt from the replay but he must have said something.

Good for all of us to remember that no game is a gimme .

Gonzaga sneaks by Montana 61-58. Domantas Sabonis led the Zags with 16pts + 10reb. #Gonzaga

Zags were an 18 point favorite.

Somebody named Breunig had 20 points for Montana. I assume that would be Martin Breunig from St John's military academy who must have transferred from Washington?

And San Jose State beat Montana earlier this year. I know it's not realistic, but I would love if we could swap the Stetson game with Gonzaga (who are a game short after the Pitt game got cancelled).

I'm pretty sure that was JJ Redick sitting to the left of Doc when they first panned to him.

I have a bunch of his basketball cards from the late '60's / early '70's. They had a late '60's NBA All-Star game on ESPN Classic a few years ago and his game kind of reminded me of Wesley Matthews. Kind of a stat stuffer.

IIRC he took jump shots at the foul line ala Hal Greer.

He looked in pretty good shape tonight.

Yes, that was Redick. They mentioned as much on tv when they were talking with Doc. JJ was excited to come see MU play and see his old coach, Wojo.
