Nationally Rated Brendan Bailey Signs With Marquette
Forward Will Arrive In 2018 After Mormon Mission
Milwaukee – Prep standout Brendan Bailey (American Fork, UT/American Fork HS) has signed a National Letter of Intent with the Marquette University men’s basketball program, head coach Steve Wojciechowski announced Wednesday morning.
Bailey, a 6-8, 190-pounder, will arrive on campus in the summer of 2018 after completing a Mormon mission and have four years of eligibility with the Golden Eagles. Bailey’s father, Thurl, was a member of the 1983 NCAA Championship team at NC State under Jim Valvano and played over 10 years in the NBA with Utah and Minnesota.
“Brendan is a multi-positional player who has a very bright future at Marquette,” Wojciechowski said. “He has very good size and offensive skill and I believe his best basketball is still ahead of him. He comes from great basketball bloodlines and understands the game at a high level for someone so young. We anticipate him having a big impact on our program as we look toward the future.”
A nationally ranked prospect, Bailey is currently rated 43rd by Scout.com 48th by Rivals.com, 67th by CBSSports.com and 96th in the ESPN.com Top 100.
As a junior at American Fork High School under head coach Doug Meacham, Bailey contributed 15.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. He was a third team all-state honoree and was tabbed to the all-tourney team at the Max Preps Holiday Classic. Following the conclusion of the 2014-15 campaign, he earned invitations to both the Adidas Global Nation and NBPA Top 100 events.
In 2013-14, Bailey chipped in 12.0 points and 4.0 rebounds per game and helped the program to a semifinal appearance in the state playoffs. The Cavemen finished 17-9 that season and made their second-straight appearance in the final four. Bailey finished among the state’s top performers with 50 3-point field goals.
As a freshman, he also helped the squad to a state semifinal trip and an overall record of 17-9.
“We are thrilled to welcome both Brendan and Sam Hauser to the Marquette family,” Wojciechowski said. “Both Sam and Brendan are terrific young men come who from great families and are versatile and skilled players who have had outstanding high school careers to date.
