There was talk in another thread about teams targeted by C-USA. I mentioned that C-USA had been trying to get Illinois State for a couple of years, but Illinois State has other plans/hopes.

Perfect time for me to mention that Illinois State will be playing for the FCS Championship Saturday.

Congrats on getting to the title game and good luck to Goose85's son (and my nephew) Mike Ganzer and the Redbirds!

FCS has been and still is a real football playoff. Just getting to the final is a very big deal. Congrats and best of luck to Illinois State and to IWB's nephew.

Had a family friend who played football at ISU in the last couple of years and the Dad reaffirmed what IWB said. At the time (3 years ago or so) the goal was to get ISU into big time football in some way. Stadium expansion, bigger/higher profile league and recruiting.

Not sure if those plans are in place still or if they are realistic or not, but nice to see them make this step.

One of my nephews was a kicker for the Redbirds when they played in the FCS playoffs some time ago. He was drafted as a kicker by the Minnesota Vikings but let go the first year. I also enjoyed watching Redbird basketball when visiting my brother. They had a good coach who I believe is still coaching at Vanderbilt.

Kevin Stallings did a great job at ISU and their current head coach is leading a revival of sorts as well.

58 yard run has now giving Illinois State the lead 27-23 with 1:38 left and stocking 80 % the NDST crowd and sending the Redbird fans in a frenzy.

Very tough loss, but I am sure knowing his uncle won $100 will help - ha.
He plays for ISU, but when talking college hoops he still refers to MU as WE.
