Here we go....

Surprised that the press causing early difficulties is theirs and not ours. Decent enough start but we need to hit some of these threes. Jajuan looks great.

Back in with 2 treys. This team looks like it can shoot.

CaribouJim

Juan having some troubles. Maybe Sandy can have a freshman year like Novak.

Already impressed with Wojo. Team looks better with fundamentals like spacing on offense.

Getting killed beyond the arc. Suffice to say letting them blister us from range won't be good in the long run.

Nukem2

No Dawson again...?

CaribouJim
11-18-2014, 07:10 PM
I like that Carlino is not afraid to shoot. If only JJJ was hitting some of those open shots...

CaribouJim
11-18-2014, 07:18 PM
Stayed close - if Deonte can go off in the second half maybe they make a game of it.

MayorBeluga
11-18-2014, 07:21 PM
Last year we only scored 19 in the first half, so...

Seriously, team looks better than I expected. Really like the zone offense. Adding Luke will help but in the meantime Burton needs to step up.

Nukem2

3 point shooting the name of this game. OSU was wide open on most of those shots though.

Deonte has been a real non factor. More I see of Derrick, he really does not fit what Wojo is trying to do. No knock on Derrick, he just is not a fit given his skill set.

Markedman

Dawson is the 9th man....I doubt he is going to play in competitive games unless MU has foul trouble or injury

TheSultan

I really like Carlino though...by the end of the year I might like him more than Junior. I don't think Duane is quite ready yet.

Alan Bykowski, "brewcity77"

Balance out the three shooting and we're back in it. Love Carlino's game.

I like Sandy. Much better than I thought he would be.

CaribouJim
11-18-2014, 07:40 PM
I don't think that was a foul on DB.

Alan Bykowski, "brewcity77"
11-18-2014, 07:41 PM
Just can't close the gap. Either they score or we shoot ourselves in the foot.

MayorBeluga
11-18-2014, 07:44 PM
We don't shoot ourselves in the foot, we dribble the ball off it. Sigh

Alan Bykowski, "brewcity77"
11-18-2014, 07:45 PM
This feels expected. Turnovers have kept us in it with three shooting threatening to kill us all game. To our credit we don't look outclassed. I feel better about this team than I did before the tip.

After 3 years of playing really awful basketball, I would have thought D1 football may have been a real option after last season.

After 3 years of really awful posts about Derrick's limitations, I would have thought you would get it by now.

Yes Derrick!!

I felt before the game that Ohio State was underrated at #20. This has the look of a top-10 team. OMG DERRICK HIT A THREE!

And.... Derrick has one more 3 tonight than Duane!

Hate to knock on Derrick, but the offense just goes into SLOW gear when he is in there. Just. So obvious.

Anyway, I digressed. Thanks Derrick. Anyway, if we can look like we belong against Ohio State, we can be a good team, maybe even a tourney team. They are the better team but it's not like we look like a cupcake team. Get Luke in and maybe we can keep playing after the Big East Tourney is done.

Is this a message game for Deonte? Need some instant "O".

TedBaxter

He needs to play defense to get playing time.

Alan Bykowski, "brewcity77"
11-18-2014, 08:04 PM
I think Derrick is far better suited for Wojo's offense than Buzz's. He fits better in a multiple point guard offense alongside players like Carlino and Jajuan than next to another slow, non-provider like Jake.

We all know Burton can look disinterested on defense but now he's looking that way on offense.

Markedman

Pretty much what I expected.....Taylor a bright spot.......OSU too big and too many shooters.....

TedBaxter

Cohen's playing more minutes because he has a higher basketball IQ.

This is a horrible matchup for Burton. My wife just mentioned how effective Jae was at 6'4", but Jae had CO to clear space. Burton is great but he can't be the big man against a team with 7 guys at 6'7"+.

Taylor needs to figure out how to guard the pick and roll. His man has about 25 dunks on that move.

Pleasantly surprised. I was expecting about a 27 point loss.

Deonte has to become a much better defender and have the ability to rebound on the defensive end to get more playing time.

Alan Bykowski, "brewcity77"
11-18-2014, 08:23 PM
That was a fine result. Losses are never as much fun but we kept it somewhat close and didn't look completely outclassed. They are better but we're not bad. Excited about the rest of the season.

Duane should be right behind Deonte in line to be a better defender. Those two were absolutely brutal tonight.

Agreed. As has been the case in years past, worried about the lack of rim protectors with our underclassmen struggling to keep guys in front of them. Gotta believe Wojo will work them hard to help them get better on D. The youngsters bring more offensive upside than we've had in some time, IMO.

No Dawson again...?No Dawson at all....?

MUAlphaBangura
11-18-2014, 08:39 PM
No Dawson at all....?

You might think with our guys sucking wind so bad at the end, that he would have at least got a few mop-up minutes. Is this even repairable at this point? Next question will be.... does the transfer come at the end of the semester or the end of the school year?

Markedman

So all in all I'm not that discouraged.

Defense is a big problem....guys really have to learn to guard the ball and communicate ...not having a center is really glaring.

Burton has really been disappointing. I thought Duane did some good things in the 2nd half......guys just need to play...experience is the best teacher.....We got some really good practice against pressure and zone.

Like Markedman, net net, I am relativley pleased.

I'm going to assume that Wojo will fix what is going on with Deonte - he is way too talented to think otherwise. I like the Carlino, JJJ backcourt although they couldn't find the ocean the last 30 minutes and Duane had some flashes. I can see the following starting lineup a third of the way through the BE schedule: Carlino and JJJ in the backcourt, Deonte at the 3, Taylor at 4 and Luke at the 5.

MU could make some noise down the stretch.

CaribouJim
11-18-2014, 09:05 PM
...and to add one more thing - I haven't seen MU feed the post against the zone that much in the first half since DG's big game against Syracuse (the Jake game) two years ago.

Bingo. Does some nice things defensively, but the offense does nothing. Just becomes stagnant.

No way you replace Juan Anderson with anyone this year. Juan is the glue guy on this years team and the emotional leader. Had 5 assists last night.

Steve really should have passed the ball on that breakaway as his teammate to his left had a good angle. Oh well.
