Toronto shouldn't be sticking their beak into Creighton's business.

Have to protect the trademark. If you don't you lose all rights to it. This is why Wisconsin doesn't use the "marching Badger" any longer.

Olberman just listed Toronto as worded on world's worst for the move.

Creighton first called their mascot the Bluejays in 1923, Toronto became a MLB team in 1977. There's enough of a difference in the mascots graphically that it isn't an exact copy, unlike what some high school were doing with the "marching Badger". Creighton is the Bluejays while Toronto is the Blue Jays.

Sorry, not going to side with Toronto in any way with this.

It doesn't have to do with their name. It has to do with their new logo. I'm not saying they are right - in fact my guess is that they will lose this case and they likely know that. It has to do with establishing a precedent about protecting their trademark so the next guy doesn't try to do something similar. Here is a quick read on why companies do this.

http://blackweb20.com/2009/11/25/the-consequences-of-not-protecting-and-defending-your-trademarks/

"Inaction in policing your trademark can lead to a bar to sue for trademark infringement. In addition, failure to prosecute infringers usually is evidence of a weak mark. As a result, challengers can petition the USPTO to cancel your trademark registration."

A local high school team once was using our logo on their basketball uniforms. We had to send them a cease and desist letter. It's part of what you have to do.

Looking at the side by side comparison photos from the first post, there is no question that Toronto should be pissed..... Creighton's logo looks waaaay better.
