Next year looks like another down year for the Big East, MU will be in a down year comparatively, but we may be able to finish in the top 4 or 5 in conference... Two straight down years before CUSE and Pitt leave tagged with UCONN looking to be down for awhile and things could get ugly.

Was last year a down year??

I'm guessing some teams are going to be better than expected, and that MU will be one of those teams.

Why does everyone keep saying it was a down year for the Big East? Because teams like Marquette and South Florida were good? Or because Pitt & West Virginia were not?

Take a look at the NCAAs, which is really all that matters....

2012 - 9 bids, 14-9 record, .609, 4 Sweet 16, 2 Elite 8, 1 Final Four
2011 -11 bids, 13-9 record, .565, 2 Sweet 16, 1 Elite 8, 1 Final Four, National Champion
2010 - 8 bids, 8-8 record, .500, 2 Sweet 16, 1 Elite 8, 1 Final Four
2009 - 7 bids, 17-7 record, .708, 5 Sweet 16, 4 Elite 8, 2 Final Four
2008 - 8 bids, 11-8 record, .579, 3 Sweet 16, 1 Elite 8
2007 - 6 bids, 7-6 record, .538, 2 Sweet 16, 1 Elite 8, 1 Final Four
2006 - 8 bids, 11-8 record, .579, 4 Sweet 16, 2 Elite 8

So....

2nd most NCAA Tournament bids since Marquette has joined the Big East
2nd best record in the NCAA Tournament since Marquette joined the Big East
2nd best winning percentage in the NCAA Tournament since Marquette joined the Big East
2nd most teams in the Sweet 16 (tied) since Marquette joined the Big East
2nd most teams in the Elite 8 (tied) since Marquette joined the Big East
2nd most teams in the Final Four (tied with 2 others) since Marquette joined the Big East
Nobody in the title game.

In the 7 years that Marquette has been in the Big East, this is the 2nd best year the conference has had in the NCAA Tournament. So why does everyone seem to think the Big East was down this year?

Because people have simple minds, and don't want to do the type of research you did for this post.

People see that Pitt, UConn, and Nova were down...make their conclusions and move on to the next topic.
