Nova is 2nd best in conference in three point percentage, while MU is 2nd worst in defending the perimeter. Otherwise, the teams are pretty close with MU holding a slight advantage in turnover percent, offensive rebounding and free throw rate. Nova a slight edge in defensive rebounding and assist rate, but again close.

Have to believe Nova will shoot it well at home although one can hope that the rims at Wells Fargo are not as soft. In nine BE games, opponents have shot 40% or more from beyond the arc on MU. The OT game vs. Nova the Cats shot 35.7% which is right at their season average. MU needs to guard the line although their talent is not a great match up for that as the season's story has shown time and again. Limit the line.

Not optimistic. MU is terrible at closing out on the perimeter. If they sell out to guard the three, Arcidiacono gets into the lane. In that first game, Nova got whatever they wanted. MU has regressed defensively since that game.

I can see this getting ugly, to be honest. Hope I'm wrong.

If they don't beat Nova today, I think they'll have to win the BE Tourney to get in.

Kevin mentioned on his TNT NBA telecast Thursday he was looking forward to calling the Marquette game on Sunday day. Always seems to talk complimentary of MU.

Bad on both ends. Missing a lot of obvious plays on offense. Derrick driving into two guys while ignoring a wide open JT on the wing. Lots of forced shots, not enough ball movement, not enough pushing into the paint. When Gardner draws a paparazzi sized crowd in the paint he needs to kick it out. Just dumb decisions.

That 2 man break with Todd and Jamail epitimizes this season. I was always taught that when you have a 2 on one, you spread out and Marquette's players have had the dribbler going down the center of the court and thus, not spreading out the floor and you don't have a passing angle. Basketball 101.

I don't think it will get it done Jim, compare our resume to the schools currently listed as the last teams in and we are easily 2-3 top 50 wins behind them, not to mention most have a top 25 or better win, that is too large of a gap to make up at this point in my opinion... Sure could things break perfectly? Yes, but the odds of that are pretty low.

GW and XU are unquestionably quality wins.

So two top 50 RPI wins are enough?

Unfortunately, with Xavier's win yesterday, a 3rd place finish likely won't happen. Probably 5th at this point.

How do you figure? - If MU finishes by beating Providence & St. John's, they finish 11-7.
Xavier has Seton Hall & Villanova. They split the finish 11-7.
Providence has MU & Creighton. If they lose both the finish 9-9.
St. John's has MU. If they lose they finish 9-9.
Georgetown has Creighton & Villanova. They lose both they are 7-11.

Of course it all requires MU to win both remaining games, but it is the likely scenario.

Great effort today MU with your NCAA lives on the line. Just freaking end this season ASAP. Decline the NIT bid(if they even get one). It'd just be an embarrassment more than anything.

C'mon guys. The only chance MU has is to win the Big East tournament. That's the only chance now. Their RPI will never be high enough with the amount of losses.

I'm not convinced that would even be enough. BET Championship or bust.

Would give us 9 top-100 wins and a top-25 win, along with a top-50 RPI. If we win our last two and make the final we are in.

That said, I don't expect us to do either.

Rational much? Any post season experience will be great for the younger players on the team. People are acting like we haven't won a game this year....

I'm sure they will accept it, but quite frankly it's an embarrassment for a team that was unanimously picked to win the Big east. if you are okay with an NIT bid, that's your prerogative. I know the team must be okay with it, since they have played like that's where they have wanted to be all season.

Six double digit losses this year from an experienced team. Most under Buzz and there is still a good part of the season to be played. This has been a tough year for Buzz, and credit is due for staying with the guys as they made a run back despite no room for error. But, it was clear early on this team was going to underachieve and he should have gone with the future potential. Since he didn't, next season will be a total rebuilding project. NIT may be the better choice to extend the season and give the lads a chance to play some more minutes.

Yes. Even if they don't play. Say they make a little run in the NIT, they will experience the amped up practices, the next level of energy a tournament brings....there is plenty to learn, even if they don't see a minute of PT.

The ultimate insult - CBS just cut away to the Indiana - Ohio State game.

Y'all can defend Buzz all you want but TODAY, this team was out-hustled, out-coached, out-prepared and out-played. Does anyone argue with this statement?

I am a HUGE Buzz fan. However, from now on when recruiting, basketball IQ has to be towards the top of the characteristics for the guys he recruits. Although our team basketball IQ is atrocious this year it will improve simply by attrition next season. Duane Wilson, Ahmed Hill and Luke Fischer all seemingly have good basketball IQs. Not sure about Satchel P. as I have not seen him play enough on video.

I will say it once again, St Johns is a terrible match up for us.

And winning at PU will not be easy.

If the young guys don't play in an NIT run that will beyond ugly. If MU is in the NIT I'm quite sure Buzz will rachet up the PT of the young guys w/ JJJ being a TBD. If not, I'm at a loss for words.

Well yeah but people acting surprised that they lost at Villanova...why are you surprised/outraged? It's more than obvious that nova is a level above us, just like we were a level above them the last couple years.

I realize it's the pent up frustration from a season of lost opportunities and disappointments...but Nova was a double digit favorite for a reason.

This win was the path to the Tourney. And the played like crap. That is what people are upset about.

Exactly - Nova is fighting for an overall #1 seed. Sure, we all would have like to have seen more out of MU today, but it is not like they got their asses handed to them by DePaul.

No, Nova was favored by 10 pts. However, I have seen bigger underdogs win. I am not out-raged but suprised and disappointed that they were out-hustled, out-coached, out-prepared and out-played. No excuses.

I don't think it's so much surprise that they lost but how they lost. Double digit lead the entire second half. No fight on either end of the floor. Wide open threes for 'Nova start to finish. Routine dumb decisions with the ball. Seniors playing like they had no idea how important this game was. Stupid on offense and defense.

I knew losing today was a realistic possibility. But I didn't expect we would never have a chance. I disagree that Buzz's T was the deciding factor, but from that point we were never in the game. For a team with so much experience, with so much on the line, that's just sad.

Oh, and they didn't cut away on DirecTV in Milwaukee. I got the finish of the game and it came back after the commercial to a 2-1 Indiana lead. Those that missed the end (for all the excitement that was worth) just need a better provider.

I think that play in the first half that the Nova guy saved the rebound and got two points out of it summed up this MU team. Yes it was a bad call, but in a game like this you can't let a play like that happen. I don't blame Derrick for letting it go, but him or Otule acted like they expected the ball to just go out of bounds. At a minimum, be ready to grab the ball when the Nova guy tries to save it and get a 5 on 4. Instead he "saved" it and they got 2 points out of it, when we had some momentum.

To be fair I didn't watch the game bc I'm out of town. So I can't comment on the effort or lack thereof. At the same time Nova is head and shoulders better than us so I'm not surprised at the result obviously.

Bottom line sucky play or lack of talent most often means just not good enough.

Today the effort was lacking. Not going to ground the way 'Nova was, more dumb decisions than I thought possible. All the good we've seen in recent weeks undone in 40 minutes. Jamil was awful, but not just in execution but also decision making. It was just bad basketball.

'Nova's better than us, but it's not like we don't have the guys to compete. If we played to a 10-point loss but were actually fighting it'd be one thing. This team looked like they knew they didn't belong from about 15 minutes in and just mailed the result from there.
