Jake Thomas with a bad 3 miss, turnover and nothing else. Really hard to watch this offense right now. Really hard. I may be done before halftime tonight.

We have the defensive lineup out there and they keep getting wide open 3's. Play they young guys Buzz. This is not working.

Standing behind him on the putback off of a missed 3 is inexcusable for a 6th year senior. Nothing he could do there but foul. Really bad fundamentals. Really bad.

He has been touted as a "sniper" a "shooter". He has not been as advertised. On top of that, his d has been average, at best. Not seeing what he brings to the table to garner the minutes he receives.

Now, if JJ is a 5th year senior and playing like Jake, well, I would expect some bitching about his play then.

thinking the same thing---they just appear out of sink.

Regarding Jake, he's not giving us anything on either end of the floor. Throw JJ into the fire and put Jake on the bench. Jake has shown enough that he isnt able to play at this level. I'd rather lose while getting the freshman some tick than lose watching a 5th yr senior clearly get overmatched.

Call me obnoxious all you like. He has not played well at all this year. Today he has been brutal. I will stick by my observations, whether you are upset by them or not.

Somewhat disagree. Great hustle play that worked out the wrong way. There are dumb fouls and fouls that simply happen by chance. Can't play soft the whole half. He went for the ball and didn't realize the other guy was there. Everyone is clamorinv for someone to be aggresive and be the man. He was selling out for the ball. Unfortunate outcome of the play.

Difference between playing soft and playing smart. He did not have the angle. Play going away from him. Diving into the ground for the ball. Most times, that is a foul. That is why it is a dumb foul. Especially with 3 already. That play was not as important as staying on the court. Aggressiveness is one thing. Foolishness is another. As soon as I was him miss and go after the ball the first time, I knew he was going to pick up his 4th foul. Seen it too many times. Can't agree with your assessment or analysis.

I don't think any is claiming that there is a moral victory here. It's a loss. However, give our recent play things seem to be turning around and you can see how things can be when they finally come together. Remember, its still pre-Thanksgiving there plenty of time to get better. And while a lot of teams are still playing bunnies we have had the balls to actually play 2 meaningful games - one of which was on the road.

Think we get a rematch on Sunday in finals and hopefully it goes different. They have an outstanding 1, 2, and 5 and decent complementary parts on the wing. As much as no Mayo hurt the offense, he is also our quickest perimeter defender. He could have guarded Carson at times and then swing Derrick Wilson over to Marshall. ASU is a borderline top 25 team and should finish in the top half of the PAC 12. We should have our usual season once fully healthy as long as the team builds on tonight (and I trust Buzz to do that).

Maybe we saw some addition by subtraction this game.

I don't think that is a fair comment on Mayo.

I posted earlier that the team was getting good looks and we can't be that bad of a shooting team to be shooting 16%. they got looks again tonight and they hit them. And you know what, we had a chance to win.

As for Iceman - go to another board, you might be welcome there.

If someone would have told me that we would be down by 15, come back and have a chance to win at the very end, I would have been shocked.

Some good things happened tonight. Some things we need to work on. But I am encouraged.

You guys go right ahead and beat up on me. I could give a rats ass what any of you think. All I know is there isn't a one of you here in this thread that must be competitive, at all. Or played no competitive sports. Spin it anyway you want. If it makes you sleep better at night, so be it...but one more time...THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A GOOD LOSS! Period. End of story. So all you Sallies that went to bed comfortably after a LOSS because they "looked better" and it's "something to build on"...you make me sick and you can all go F*** yourselves. And after the next loss, it will be the same thing "they fought hard, they looked better, at least they made shots". Seashells and balloons, right?? Disgusting...all I remember is the score was 79-77 Arizona St, because that is ALL that matters at the end of the day. Like I said, they better win the tourney this weekend, or it's going to be a loooooooooooong season. Two losses in your first 5 of non conference, never helps a THING.

Iceman, it's morning. Did you not sleep? Maybe time for a nap. It's November. Do you realize what has happened in November the past few years? Losses to Dayton and Butler that we thought we'd win. A blowout at Florida. Close-but-not-quite games against Duke, Florida State, and Gonzaga. It happens. Don't let your blood pressure get up over it. It's November.

This team is doing fine. They have one more loss than I personally expected at this point and my prediction was winning the Big East and a deep March run. That loss was to a top-10 team. Nothing to stress over, it happens. Yesterday at this time, everyone was panicked that Jake couldn't hit a shot against a non-Grambling team to save his life (had that worry myself). Derrick was useless and did nothing on offense once we got past half-court. Jamil couldn't assert himself. Davante was in a funk. Jajuan Johnson, for all the hype, was failing to contribute. Last night, all those things started to right themselves.

It's a long season. You don't make a Final Four in November and in March, no one cares who you lost to 5 months earlier. You can freak out all you want if it makes you feel better, but please keep your pissing and moaning off this board. Vent on Scoop or Scout, they are better suited for that kind of pussy-boy pouting. In the grand scheme, losing to Dayton and Florida State didn't keep us out of the tournament, losing to Duke and Gonzaga didn't keep us out of the Sweet 16, and losing to Butler and Florida didn't keep us out of the Elite 8. Losses to Ohio State and Arizona State won't ruin our season. And on a board where IWB has worked hard to maintain peace and harmony, your weak-ass crying like a spoiled little bitch who expects to win every game simply doesn't fit in. You call us sallies? At least we can take a lump and not turn into a puddle of pissing goo. Now please stop whining.

I guess some people are right...why keep score anymore?? Let's just have everyone play games for the exercise, and to promote goodwill. After all these years...I guess it's not about winning or losing anymore, it IS truly about how you play the game, right??

You may not make a Final four in November, but November is when resumes are starting to be built, and seeds are starting to grow. A loss in November, or a loss in February, it's still a loss. The committee remembers who you lost too 5 months earlier, I remember who they lost two 5 months ago, or years ago. I'm just competitive, whether I'm playing something or not. You are correct that there is no such thing as a good loss.

However, in a loss, you can still look for signs of progress. If you did play competitive sports, I am sure your coaches said similar things to you and your teammates in the aftermath of such a loss. Things you can build upon. Things that can make you better later on.

Frankly if your coaches didn't do that, and simply called you guys a bunch of "sallies," it certainly would explain the pathology going on here.

MU_Iceman
11-26-2013, 10:14 AM
They did do that, any good Coach would, but it still didn't make me feel any better about a loss. Great, we have something to build on, let's go get them next time team!! And then after the next loss you say the same thing, and after that loss, and then after that loss...See my point?? Having things to build upon are great, but if it doesn't translate to wins, it doesn't make a damn bit of difference. Things that can make you better later on is all well and good, but with each and every loss you accumulate, pretty soon you run out of "later on" within every season, and by then, it's too late.

You sound like a baby that managed to form sentences. You're Stewie Griffin.

http://www.animateit.net/data/media/june2010/stewiegoesnutts7ll.gif

Does all of this make you feel better? Here's the thing...this game will not keep us out of the tournament. And all that matters is getting there. If we've learned anything these past few years, it's that all that matters is getting there. Butler, VCU, George Mason, Wichita State, you can get to the Final Four from a lower seed. And the games in January and February will have a lot more impact on our seeding than what happened last night.

Seriously, it's time to relax, Stewie. Would I rather we won? Sure. But the NCAA season is a marathon, not a sprint. No one goes 40-0. Just ask Kentucky. The team is improving. Guys are learning their roles. Buzz said there would be some early season bumps. This bump was a lot better than the Ohio State bump was. We'll go beat Fullerton and GW and I like our odds against Creighton, SDSU, or an ASU rematch on Sunday. And if we lose, guess what? We'll still make the tournament and this team will still grow.

If you're going to freak out before the New Year, at least save it for a rivalry game like Wisconsin. When you throw all your toys out of the crib after every loss, it's just kind of sad and incredibly immature. This is the big boy site. Act like it.

You don’t go from terrible to really good in one step. Anybody who has ever played sports knows you get incrementally better.

This season we started out really bad…the reasons don’t matter at this point…….last night was a step in the right direction in becoming a good team.

Anybody who can’t see that should do themselves a favor and just stop watching the games. If it’s all about winning and losing then just read the box score the next day…it will tell you all you need to know….

I am still admittedly bummed about Fox' decision to kill off Brian the dog. Especially when it is reported that the producers thought "this would be a fun way to shake things up". A fun way? Killing off one of the best characters is a "fun way to shake things up"?

I am a big fan of Family Guy, and this move may have driven me away completely.

Classic Family Guy.....

Peter: "Brian, I have to go to Mr. Pewterschmidt's country club and I don't know how to talk to those people, can you help me?"

Brian: "I would be happy to help Peter, let's see - try this, repeat after me: "Hello, it's nice to see you this evening."

Peter: "Bob Crane of Hogan's Heroes died during rough sex with a hooker."

Brian: "Great, I feel my work here is done!"

Apparently you don't get it..this was their 2nd Non conference loss...Now what happens if they lose one(or worse yet two or three) this weekend?? Then they lose @ UW, and lose a neutral site game to New Mexico?? No one knows what's going to happen..but we do KNOW they already have two non conference losses..What if by the end of Non conference it's 5 or 6?? Then what?? You are missing the whole point like everyone else is apparently...I'm not disputing last night wasn't a step in the right direction, but the problem is..how many "steps in the right direction" do you get/have to take before it gets too late and losses have accumulated?? THAT's my point...you can't get losses back. I'm just curious to know what you will all say if they play well in Anaheim this weekend, but lose two games?? Will it then be "well, you can clearly see the team progressing". This after their 3rd and 4th non conference losses were already accumulated?? They can progress all they want, but it would be a hell of a lot better if they did their progressing WHILE winning. That isn't unheard of you know?? Lots and lots of teams do that.

You are right, it will tell me all I need to know...the final score is what matters, isn't it?? I don't watch MU games expecting them to lose, do you?? What fun would that be?? I'm VERY hopeful they will win, and yes in many instances, expect them to win. So when they don't win, wouldn't you say it's fair to be disappointed?? Maybe your the type that doesn't care if they win or lose, don't care if they get in the tourney etc etc. if that's your cup of tea, I don't begrudge you that, but quite frankly, it's not for me.

Stewie, you're thinking about things like a bubble team. When we were TBW, it was a different story. If we go 8-5 in the non-con, I'm still confident we'll go 12-6 or better in the conference and be trending up. 1-2 wins at MSG will lock us into a respectable seed. And if the horror of horrors happens and we miss the tournament, so be it. We'll be back next year and with our recruiting classes be competing for titles in the near future.

I have to assume you're 20-25 years old, Stewie. You don't have much perspective on life or basketball. I suggest you not live and die with every regular season result. It's time to learn from what has happened with Buzz here. We lost 4 non-con games in 2010 and still made the 2011 tourney as an at-large and went to the Sweet 16. We lost 3 non-con games last year and still got a 3-seed and went to the Elite 8.

I'm not pinning my hopes on the conference tournament. I'm pinning my hopes on knowing that Buzz Williams knows how to get this done. He knows how to grow a team and how to have them both ready and playing in the NCAAs. And he certainly doesn't panic because of one result in November.

I have said to you in the past, stay away from the board after a loss. You really should consider a 24 hour waiting period after a loss, 24 days if it is a loss to UW.

Ah, that is a game changer, then. I try to stay away from scoop or at the least, limit my thread reading there.

I do after any loss that is for sure. Every once in a while drop by, but am quickly reminded why I don't go there very often.

You know what they say about making assumptions, right?? So please refrain. I don't need a "lesson" on anything from you. I know all about what has happened since Buzz has been here, thank you very much. I think buzz does a terrific job. This has nothing to do with him or me not thinking he's not getting it done etc. It has to do with...I HATE losing, at anything to anyone, at anytime. Period. Maybe you aren't a competitive person, and can't understand that concept? Maybe you never played a second of competitive sports(probably not, you were too busy watching cartoons even in HS)?? Maybe you don't know/care about winning or losing?? I don't know you, so I'm not going to judge you, I'd appreciate you do the same for me, and I'd appreciate it if you didn't call me Stewie(the fact you even know who he is, because i have no idea says something). And mostly, I'd appreciate you not try to give me a lesson on basketball. I have forgotten more than you will ever know. I'm pretty positive about that. Have a nice day!

Stewie, your entire post is laughable. This has nothing to do with you being competitive, it has to do with you pouting. You aren't out there doing anything, you aren't involved whatsoever, so YOU are not losing. If you can't influence the outcome, you aren't the one winning or losing. Regardless, like Mac said, you win and lose with class. Enjoy a win, be disappointed in a loss, but don't gloat when you win and don't throw your toys out of the tub when you lose.

And I'll stop calling you Stewie as soon as you stop acting like a talking baby. Based on your history on this board, that will be sometime between December and January. Of 2027. Demand respect and you'll get nothing. That has to be earned.

Thanks for the sage advice. I will take that under advisement! Here's a better idea, how about I just not have to worry about them losing, or at least not a lot, then none of us have any problems. :D That's the best idea, I think.

But not the most realistic one.
