Sounds like Smart is happy at VCU. I also think he has a pretty good team coming back for next season.

Tough for Illinois to get turned down publicly already.

I talked to someone close to the situation yesterday. Said that Smart was their number one target, but that they really didn't have a plan B yet.

When you are making 1.2 and you turn down 2.7(rumored) you REALLY don't want the job......lol

I'm always happy when coaches stay put and don't jump at a job just for the money. He obviously really likes it at VCU.....good for him.

The rumors of the offer.....

Last year Ron Zook made $1.7 million. If the conference shakeups told us anything, it is that football is WAYYY more valuable than basketball. So, keeping that in mind, does anyone really think Illinois would offer a basketball coach $1 million dollars per year more than their football coach? Don't think so.

You think Buzz wants to be second choice? No way. Thank you Illinois for making it so public!

Like IWB said, Buzz right now is making more than their football coach, no way they can offer BW type money, not gonna happen... Buzz may leave some day, but it won't be Illinois.

Personally, I think there is as good a chance of Buzz coaching the Illini BBall team as there is Tim Tebow.
