MU's uniforms - New Jordan warmup jackets are sweet - the Jordan yellow gold and orange camo shoes, not so much

Two fouls called before a shot ever goes up?

IWB

First basket of the year - Davante Gardner on a feed from Jake Thomas

IWB

Watching the Oregon vs Georgetown game as well. That UCLA transfer who's playing for Georgetown goes 350 pounds. I think he can set a pick.

IWB
11-08-2013, 07:26 PM
Is it Rick "The Pick" Majerus?

MU only up by one in the rebounding category - 6-5. Bright spot in that all 5 of MU's made baskets have been assisted. The guys are spreading the ball around.

New NCAA foul rules are taking their toll. Still 10:30 to go in first half and MU is already in the double bonus.

IWB

Good to see Bill & Gwen Cords siting with Mr. & Mrs. Coach Strong.

Is Gardner a modern version of George Thompson plus half a foot of height and 50 pounds?

IWB
11-08-2013, 07:49 PM
Fouls fouls fouls - with that last FT attempt by Gardner, MU has more FT attempts than Field Goal attempts.

New rules = these games will last forever.

just following the updates online as I have not found a stream. how is southern. seems like they are sticking with us. matter of mu giving up some tough shots, or are they ok?

IWB

Halftime MU 38-32. Guys you need to guard Malcom Miller!!

FYI, don't know what play Buzz drew up to come out of the time out, but two guys were holding Jake Thomas down.

Halftime thoughts?

IWB
11-08-2013, 07:58 PM
MU should be blowing them out but Malcom Miller is raining threes. Guy is 4-8 on threes. Should be 5-9 but they cut one down to a 2.

btw, a great game between providence and bc. providence won in OT. not sure how BC is supposed to be, but always good to get a big east win over the acc regardless. Georgetown down I believe 6 to #19 Oregon. they were down big to start but have battled back and look better. not much from the outside but they have some beef down low. can't wait to see davante shred josh smith. smith is gonna make davante look anorexic.

Philip Flory, Nick Noskowiak in the house as is Bob Stone.

12:00 to go. MU up on the glass 25-24. Southern has taken 45 shots to MU's 29, but MU has 27 FT attempts to Southern's 2.

TulsaWarrior

Marquette seems to have just three guys who can put it in the bucket. ;-(

Derek Wilson only has two turnovers, which is great, but he needs to create some offense for others.

As Tulsa said, Jamil, Davante & Todd have been scoring, nobody else. Someone needs to step it up.

Todd has looked really good. Confident and getting after it on d.

At the 7:49 mark - Rebounds tied up at 28.

Southern has 20 more FG attempts than MU.
MU has 31 more FT attempts than Southern.

JJJ no offense tonight but some good defensive moments. He'll get game time based on that.

TulsaWarrior
11-08-2013, 09:02 PM
Maybe it's because of wanting to get playing time for everyone -- to many players still figuring it out. So much for the rule changes increasing scoring.

IWB
11-08-2013, 09:03 PM
Same with Jake Thomas - Johnson & Thomas did very well defensively. Johnson very active, but I keyed on Jake's D a lot since that was such a concern and he held his own.

OJ Mayo in the house tonight.

Buzz: Jajuan gets called for a crap foul. Stood there with his hands still up in the air - Buzz was screaming at him, "Put your hands down, put your hands down! We don't do that, put your hands down!!"

Somewhat disjointed evening at the BMO. I don't like the new rules and all the fouls. Otherwise -- typical opening night.

IWB
11-08-2013, 09:12 PM
Life lessons? Down the stretch and Buzz is playing with three freshmen, one soph, one junior.

IWB
11-08-2013, 09:13 PM
Enough of that, with the assault on Dawson resulting in a turnover, Jamil, Jake, Todd, Derek & Davante coming back in.

IWB
11-08-2013, 09:17 PM
Last foul on Jake Thomas. Looks at the ref and says, "What did I do?" Ref responds, "I don't know."

Final MU 63-56.

Lots of fouls, new rules are brutal. Every single touch foul.... ugly

dubs98
11-08-2013, 09:26 PM
well that was ugly. a win is a win and good to see the fellas on the floor again. Nice to see Todd play so well. The point is definitely gonna be the key this year to see if we can get any production from that position. even though he did not do a lot, I just like how jjj moves on the floor. very smooth. should be very interesting to see how tightened up the rotation gets against osu next week.

I'm thinking Buzz will have the team working tomorrow. Tonight's play was disjointed to say the least.

I have to believe Taylor is still in the recovery mode and will show more as the season progresses.

I still think we need to see more Mayo at the point. Gives the team more offense. Derrick can come in off the bench.

Good to see Bill & Gwen Cords siting with Mr. & Mrs. Coach Strong.

I was in the bathroom in the Courtside Club just before tip off. Someone asks another about how he see's the new conference. This person addresses it by talking about how important it is to schedule the right teams in the non conference schedule. The weaker teams should not load up on the upper echelon ... It struck me as a bit odd that the first thought was scheduling until I turned around and saw it was Bill Cords. Then it all made sense. ;)

It was nice to see him back in attendance.
