CBS SPORTS SIGNS MULTI-YEAR DEAL TO BROADCAST BIG EAST CONFERENCE BASKETBALL

BIG EAST Games to be Featured on CBS Sports and CBS Sports Network
via Sublicense Deal with Fox Sports

2013-14 Schedule Features Multiple Appearances by
Georgetown, Marquette, Villanova and St. John’s

CBS Sports has acquired the rights to televise BIG EAST Conference college basketball games on the CBS Television Network and CBS Sports Network through a sublicensing agreement with Fox Sports. The multi-year agreement begins with the 2013-2014 college basketball season and continues through 2018-2019.

Beginning with the 2014-2015 season, the deal provides for up to 30 men’s basketball games per year combined on CBS Sports and CBS Sports Network. CBS Sports can broadcast up to five games each year, with CBS Sports Network airing the remaining contests as part of the agreement.

In the first year of the deal for the 2013-2014 season, CBS Sports will broadcast two games and CBS Sports Network will air 18 match-ups. Both CBS Sports and CBS Sports Network will have access to non-conference and conference games. Also, CBS Sports Network will air a minimum of two women’s games per year, as well as select Olympic sports.

“We are excited about our new agreement with Fox, which extends our 30-year relationship with the BIG EAST Conference,” said Sean McManus, Chairman, CBS Sports. “Today’s announcement continues our recent string of new agreements strengthening our programming, and further solidifying CBS Sports as the leader in college basketball.”

Just curious - are these games incremental to what FS1 would be showing? Wondering why Fox would do that if they are looking for more content via more teams in the BE. I'm sure it makes sense for them - just wondering how.

And what about Fox Sports 2? I don't see that channel listed at all on the schedule. Or is that was "FSN" is?

I could be wrong, but I do not believe that this nets the BE any additional revenue. ESPN and their new competition sign these big deals knowing that they are unlikely to broadcast all of the games so they sub license to a partner. The question all along was who was going to get the rest of the BE games and now we know.

FOX Sports 1 will air 108 regular-season games, and an additional 9 tournament games.
FOX Sports 2 will air 12 games. (To find the channel location for FOX Sports 1 and FOX Sports 2 on local distributors, use the channel locator at http://msn.foxsports.com/.)
CBS Sports Network will air 18 games, and 2 additional games will air on CBS Sports.
FOX Sports Network will air up to 18 games regionally. FOX Sports (FBC) will televise one game featuring BIG EAST teams.

Am I the only one that really wants to see Fox bump the local Fox Sports out of Channel 31 on the TWC listings? Having it at 75 and 1317 will make it a lot harder for casual fans to find unless they are looking. I'd rather have the chance that someone accidentally stumbles on to it while surfing to ESPN.

What is a cable card?

Who knows, its what the asterisk for Ch 75 on TWC's channel lineup states.

What is a cable card?

Replaces a cable box. It is inserted into the TV, if it has a Cable Card slot, but has limitations and is not widely used. Was used more regularly years ago to bring digital to digital TV's. With HD, interactive, pay per view, DVR ... you need a box as a cable card will not work.
