Story behind the defibrillator being at Homestead.

A number of years ago one of my son's good friends was playing in a j.v. basketball game when he collapsed. His first name was Adam. Unfortunately, he could not be saved. Another of my son's friends, who was a student at Homestead at the time and also a good friend of Adam initiated a project he called "Project ADAM" aimed at getting schools to put defibrillators on site and train staff how to use them. (I was teaching at another school at the time and took part in one of the training sessions.) Many believed that had there been a defibrillator in the gym the night Adam collapsed, there was a good chance he would have survived.

This student worked for two or three years to get defibrillators in as many schools as possible. It looks like his hard work paid off.

(I may be wrong because my memory is not what it used to be, but I believe the incident with Adam took place at Homestead.)
