no worries at this point, but this is why the experts thought we could be the possible upset. we battle and have talent, but we are not good shooters and that has shown...allows anyone to beat you.

Nothing worse than watching in a bar and having a 60 year old guy in a suit cheering against MU - obnoxiously.

Thank you coach! STEVE > JUAN!

CaribouJim

Juan needs to sit and Taylor needs to play more and Junior has to suck it up and be prepared all but a minute or two in the 2nd half.

Yes, Steve needs to play. Juan has been poor defensively, so Steve can't do worse. At least Steve can get some points on the board and get tough rebounds.

McKillop's name came up, but I don't believe he had any interest in leaving Davidson

ge1974
03-21-2013, 03:31 PM
Calling Vander Blue..calling Vander Blue.... He has been MIA.

We only have two assists in the first half. That's awful. Thank God for our rebounding and teir missed FTs or they would be up at least 10 points.

Matty's in New Berlin. What's worse, is the bar is full of MU fans and these tools are front and center - now openly cheering for Davidson.

Nothing that a left uppercut to the solar plexus wouldn't fix.

Mucrisco

Davison is smart. They know we have to "hug' on the weak side, which is opening up driving lanes where they can draw fouls. Also, it gives them more room to post up, which gives them more space to make dribble post moves. Thank goodness they aren't up to their norm on hitting FT's. When we don't hug, we give up open threes. People on Dodd's board want us to shorten the bench. However, defensive pressure is speeding up this game. We need to keep fresh legs out there to defend. Just as long as we don't commit dumb fouls, fify feet away from the rim.

dw3dw3dw3
03-21-2013, 03:48 PM
this is tough... want to throw my shoe at computer.

Mucrisco
03-21-2013, 03:51 PM
There was a rumor that McKillop bought a house in Mequon and was the new coach. Obviously, it was false.

No excuse there Mayo. Why give him that much space to shoot?

dw3dw3dw3
03-21-2013, 03:52 PM
I know the game plan is to try and speed them up, but we are just not good at that. Our rotations go out of whack so easily when we are chasing. Sit back, play solid D, and get stops.

Mucrisco
03-21-2013, 03:54 PM
I disagree. If we sit back, they just space us out and hit threes or have space to operate in that paint. Have to make them uncomfortable and force them to make plays they are not use to.

Nukem2
03-21-2013, 03:58 PM
Wow Jamil has been assaulted twice and get TOs....

CaribouJim
03-21-2013, 04:00 PM
Be careful Devante.

dw3dw3dw3
03-21-2013, 04:05 PM
They haven't made a lot of them, but they are getting wide open 3's off our pressure.

Mucrisco
03-21-2013, 04:07 PM
That's because they are shots that are out of rhythm. Keep taking them out of their comfort zone. Don't let them be methodical.

dw3dw3dw3
03-21-2013, 04:08 PM
Alright agree to disagree...this game not going well... hope we can agree on that.

Is that 3 times where MU stepped out of bounds?

Mucrisco
03-21-2013, 04:16 PM
Agreed. But it's our offense, not our D.

dubs98
03-21-2013, 04:16 PM
little early to be giving up on the squad, but we do need to get it going sooner then later. we are simply not a good shooting team. yikes

Outcoached, outplayed, but still managed to win the game. I agree with CaribouJim - We used up about 8 lives in that game.

TheSultan
03-21-2013, 05:24 PM
Not sure how they were outcoached. McKillop IMO spit the bit by not attacking the basket when opportunities presented later in the game. And they were clearly rattled in the backcourt. They should have called a TO...since they are supposedly good at "special teams."

Not sure how they were outplayed since MU scored more points than they did.

Markedman
03-21-2013, 05:34 PM
I know it's not conventional coaching philosophy but if I was Mckillop I think I would have gone zone the last possession. You just can't let this MU team spread the floor and get to the rim.

We did make some tough 3's down the stretch but I'm taking my chances with a jump shot there and live with the result.....

Wow....I still can't believe we won....

I liked the game plan of slowing the game down and trying to pound Davidson, we just could not finish for the life of us. We only turned it over nine times. Finish better, and we win this game by 12-15.

TheSultan

I would have at least collapsed and get the ball out of Blue's hands. I mean, why are they guarding Thomas so close?

Yes, his whole table was there. Vander hits the shot, the entire place was going nuts and this table was just sitting there as if their dog just died.

Funny, there were four guys at the table. One, late 30s-early 40s wearing a Badger sweatshirt and stocking cap pulled way down. The tool with the suit who was probably 60+, another guy wearing a sweater who was probably 60 and another guy in a sport coat who was late 50s.

Believe it or not, the guy in the Badger sweatshirt seemed like the only guy that was quietly pulling for Marquette, and seemed happy with Vander's shot. The other three were absolutely motionless. I mean, even if it was Davidson that hit the shot, I would have showed some emotion, these guys were absolutely motionless. Not turning to each other with a "did you see that?" or a "can you believe that?" Nope, they sat there absolutely motionless. It was as if they were trying to show people that MU is no big deal.

Today comes the Badgers game. Now I admit I am a die hard Marquette fan, but if I was in a local establishment full of Badger fans watching the Badger game today I would be pulling for Wisconsin. They are from this state, as are several of their players. Well..... after the behavior of these guys, it makes it hard to pull for them?

Best part was that these guys were ripping Vander throughout the game, 'over rated', 'terrible shooter' etc etc. Love that Van hit the shot.

A few of us local Madisonians watched the game at a local establishment. There were a couple of groups of Badger fans cheering every Davidson shot like it was their own team. There were enough there that cheered Blue's shot, but those few sat and sulked. I may or may not have shouted something to the effect that UW fans didn't think he could play.

Those select few are what makes it really difficult to be happy with any UW success.

I am in Austin with a group of Marquette grads. The bar we were watching the game in ended having 4 separate groups of Marquette fans. Much better location than you, it sounds like IWB.
