And many calls favored MU. Just a couple of bad officials.

I guess you can add Lindsay with that T. Really a crew that needs to be replaced. Not ready for prime time.

No consistency. Calling moving screens but letting interior shooters getting bumped regularly.

That is the type of game Hess and Kersey call. They are really awful officials. I wonder if Hess will kick any legends out of this one?

How can you give the coach a timeout when the MU player has already grabbed the ball out of the basket? Amazing.

And that is not a lane violation? Really? All Buzz could do is laugh. MU played really poorly tonight, but this crew was comically bad.

The way they called this game with muggings inside that seemed to hurt us, made the game unwatchable. The play when Mayo was blasted to the ground was emblematic. Buzz's T only cost us two free throws. The loss of possession on that play was more important. Very frustrating game for the way we played and the way the game was called.

Did anybody else think that body block of a foul Trawick put on CO2 was worth more than a common foul? Totally blind sided Chris(no pun intended). Not anywhere near the ball. Really hard to drop a 6'11' 270 lb. guy to the ground without a significant blow. At best, a really cheap shot that I hope is not forgotten.

As I said on the other board, Trawick is a hack. Dirty, dirty player.

And as I said on the other board, that would have been a personal foul in football. Really cheap all the way.

Mrs. Gato noted, and looking back I think she is right, that in the 1st half, Bilas and Raft were critical of the officials. Not a peep in the 2nd half--despite what seemed like more egregious calls in the 2nd half. Like ESPN told them they had to mellow out. They seemed to ignore a few obvious, 2nd half calls that drew their wrath in the 1st half.

FWIW Hess is #2 in number of games officiated this year with 69. Kersey is tied for 3rd with 67.

Couple of questions about refs.

Are they paid by the game? Are they considered self-employed, or are they employed by the conference? Do they make their own travel arrangements?

Paid by game and get per diem. Can't remember the per diem, but it is significant and many bank the coin.

They are self employed, but tied to conferences. Some cross conferences. Hess, as an example, does ACC and BE games.

Thanks Mac. Any idea how much they pull down in a year?

The top ones get about a grand a game plus expenses. They can officiate 90 or so games. Not a bad part time gig.

OK, thanks. No wonder they fill their schedule so completely.

A few years back some ESPN guys were complaining about refs working too many games. One of the best at the time, Steve Welmer, pointed out that the NCAA or conferences had a way to deal with it: make them employees. Problem was, the tax-exempt greedy NCAA and tax-exempt greedy conferences wouldn't do that since it would cost more since those tax-exempt greedy institutions would have to offer benefits such as health insurance and retirement plans.

I miss Steve Welmer. One of the best college refs I've seen. He was consistent, and always had the right demeanor. He should be training referees.
