@jeffborzello: RT @dennisdoddcbs: 15.7 rating last night means ND-Ala would be most viewed cable TV show in history.

This is why football drives the bus, like it or not people watch, until those numbers go down they will be in control.

While I am not disagreeing that football drives the bus, how many times have major events/shows been "on cable"? The 15.7 rating is huge, but it would only put it as the #33 watched sports broadcast of 2012, just barely ahead of the Packers vs 49ers game in September.

Who would have thought that Alabama v. ND for all the marbles would have surpassed the premier of High School Musical 2?

To be fair, if one excludes the NFL and Olympics, the game would be far and away # 1. The NCAA BB Finals were at 12.3, FWIW.

According to Marcus Jackson on Twitter, AJ McCarron's girlfriend had 550 Twitter followers before the game, now she has over 140,000

Auburn-Oregon beats ND-Alabama

Alabama's 42-14 rout over Notre Dame drew a 15.7 overnight rating Monday on ESPN, the network said Tuesday. That's up 14 percent from last year's game, another blowout Crimson Tide victory, 21-0 over LSU. But it's down from the 16.1 for ESPN's first BCS championship two years ago, Auburn's win over Oregon that was decided in the final seconds.

The talking heads said it would be the highest ever in the BCS era (1998) The 2006 Rose Bowl game between Texas-USC will not be beat with one year left in the BCS (22.7)

The last four BCS Football Champs came from the state of Alabama as Auburn won it in 2010 and Bama in 2009, 2011, 2012.
Florida won in 2006 and 2008 with LSU in 2007.
SEC has won 9 and lost 1 with the loss being LSU losing to fellow SEC member Alabama. Looks like you need to be in a gulf coast state to win it all in football.

I'd say the SEC has done pretty well in the big game. If that continues, at some point will it hurt ratings?

In the 2014 season, college football will be really different as we know it with the 4 team playoff. It looks like the Jan, 1 2015 the two semi-finals will be in the Rose & Sugar. The rating ballgame will change.

That was creepy last night - he kept going on and on. Reminded me of the late Chris Schenkel at ABC in the late '60's and early '70's - he'd point out the co-eds in the crowd all the time, but in a less creepy, more wholesome way I guess.

I shocked that anyone thinks that is creepy.

What he said was nothing compared to what every guy watching was thinking.

The game wasn't much to talk about, so why not talk about the QB's rather fetching girlfriend?

I just prefer the old fashioned stalking strategy rather than calling out a hot chick on national TV that's all - stalking is more classy - I'm just old school I guess.

Fr Dan's Camera and Hizzoner were wondering why Caribou wasted his time playing for the Lil Monarchs. He should have been a quarterback for an SEC school instead, as that seems to be teh way to get even more of those leggy super models he always hangs around with (or rather, they hang around with him)

I concur on all your points Mayor.
