MU up 10 early - looking very good, multiple substitutions already...

MU D will not give an open look - best play so far was Junior's three from the corner.

Not every day you see Gardner getting up high to swat a shot - and Vander dives over the bench for the ball. Love the effort.

MU 1-8 on last 8 shots - still up 16-12

Roosevelt Jones now has 3 fouls for Butler

We are not getting any penetration right now from anyone. Butler doing a great job of preventing interior pass and when we do get it, they double immediately. Tough to score right now.

Offense continues to be a real struggle.

6 turnover so far - Vander has been a liability on offense.

Don't have that reliable "go to guy" yet.

We have two assists in 17 minutes. Not like Marquette.

....and 9 turnovers. Now down 4

We have nobody who can consistently score the basketball... Maybe Gardner but he needs to be fed and we struggle at that so far... Someone needs to step up as the guy or this will be a long year.

As Buzz said at the B&G luncheon and on his TWC show, need to be more efficient offensively. Not happening yet.

Did Juan Anderson get the start?

I am at work and the Gametracker is only tracking shots and the player minutes aren't tabulating either. How many minutes have Jamil and Trent played and does Jamil have 3 fouls like the Gametracker indicates?

ESPN box score shows Jamil with 2 fouls.

Gametracker is terrible. They were off by two points for about 5 minutes of the game.

And not playing smart either. Otule flying out to block a 3 from their big center and gives up a drive which leads to a foul.

We look lost out there....

Wilson just picked up his 3rd

IWB

Junior with a great move in the lane, now has 11 points

On the boards, Butler has been climbing MU's backs the entire game.

Wilson now with 4 fouls
Juan has 4
Davante with 3

And Wilson just tries to block a 7 footers layup after bad communication between Jwil and Thomas.

Jake Thomas picks a hell of a time to get into the scoring column.

A tough loss. Junior needed to make that FT to give MU a 3 point lead and Butler has to inbound with no TOs. Jake earned his scholie on that putback.

Feel a bit better about the team as whole, as both us and Butler look much better then their awful performances last Tuesday. Still, this was a win we really could have used, and may become doubly painful if Butler beats UNC (who I think is vulnerable). My one major qualm is the lack of Otule on defense at the end, as we could have used a rim protector on some of those late possessions. Painful loss, a game we should have won, with the slight comfort that the team is at least better then they looked against SELA and should have not a Nova/Pitt type season from last year.

A tough loss, a really painful loss. Here are the bad things about it...
1. Lost chance at quality win.
2. Will lose good teams on schedule by not winning.
3. Played well enough to win, and still didnt win....

Good things:
1. I think Vander is going to be a better player this year.
2. Junior is going to be a better player.
3. And thats about it right now.

Very concerned about JWil. He looked really hesitant out there. At the 1 minute mark or so, he faked a hand off on the wing, spun and had a wide open lane to the rim....

And did nothing.....

We need him to attack that rim and score or be fouled. Also little or nothing on the boards and couldn't keep his guy from penetrating...

IWB

He did that late in the second half too.

The challenge going forward will be how does MU use its strength, which right now is Gardner in the post. How can we get creative to him the ball and design schemes that will put our "shooters" around him. Its a style of offense that we really havent seen from Marquette in a really long time.
