Not even three minutes in and refs are already pulling Garner aside to discuss his trash talking with Rowsey during free throws.
At first TV timeout MU has three fouls, all of which were completely unnecessary. Need that to stop.
Penn State with 5 fast break points already, MU has to shut that down.

Garner called with an offensive foul - refs are not taking his BS, watching him closely.
This place is louder than the BC despite 1/4 of the fans.

Sounds loud on TV.
Cain playing well on his birthday. May need to sit Sam down. He is a liability on defense with his inability to move.

Penn State looks good. Defintely have some mismatches that pose problems for us.......Theo needs to finish stronger and communicate better ......on defense.
Jamal with another bad turnover but also a great offensive rebound bucket.
Not sure we can win this game without a bigger contribution from Sam

Stevens just bullying whoever is on him
Sam is not on. Having trouble getting separation and when he does get it his shot is off.
Marquette with two fouls off of rebounding in the offensive end.

Certainly seeing why Borowski and Simpson are here and not an NCAA venue
MU must have seen something in their breakdown of Penn State, going harder after offensive rebounds than any game I can remember in the Wojo era.
MU has 4 offensive rebounds, 8 total - also have two fouls picked up when rebounding on offensive end.

How many drives to the basket that lead to a dish to Matt end up in a TO? Seems like we have trouble finishing those whether it be a bad pass or a bad catch.

My goodness penn State playing well......just not missing.........they are contesting everything and are quicker to the ball.
Really surprised that the rebounding battle is close (PSU 22-20) seems like they are getting everything.
Twice at the end of the quarter the clock expires on MU as Rowsey stands there waiting for someone to come and inbound the ball.

Markus struggling...Sam struggling.....nobody else able to help Rowsey.
Theo struggling on offense(turnovers)but at least he is rebounding today.
Theo has 8 rebounds, 2-4 from field but 4 turnovers.

Can't blame that last turnover on Theo. Rowsey points up court so Theo throws it, Rowsey stops and comes back. If you tell the ball handler you're going long, you better go long!!!
One or the other, can't do both and can't tell him one thing and do the other.

That's asking way too much of Theo to make that pass.....Rowsey has to know his personnel.....he has to make that an easy pass for Theo......inexcusable

All the types of 3's MU made all year, they are missing today. Just not their day from long range.
Those last two baskets by Stevens were due to lack of communication - Rowsey cost MU on both plays.

Yep, what it looked like at the Al. Also, in the possessions of zone, Rowsey had his hands down. But what a force on offense.

Cockiest group we have played. Wish we could have shut them up.
I was across court so I couldn't hear them, but there was a player's mom that was constantly taunting the student section. Parents should cheer for their kids and their teammates, but when you have a parent talking trash and taunting students? Absurd, but the more I see out there the more I worry that it is becoming the norm.

We were talking about that during the game. Would it have hurt to put Harry in and try to draw the Penn State bigs away from the hoop? Harry is the only center we have with any offensive skills.
Heldt didn't score, and doesn't look to shoot. John isn't offensive at all, and was getting beat on D too. Why not give Harry a few minutes.

I am often critical of a fan base that seems to be apathetic, even in big games. The three NIT games provided a different perspective - an enthusiastic fan base that has been watching games in a less-than-ideal environment. Yesterday's game provided some great examples. Fans were paying $75 for a general admission ticket to an NIT game. The crowd was in the game from start to finish, including a pretty raucous student section on the northern end. With the team down double-digits with minutes to go, hardly anyone was heading for the exits. Instead, the crowd erupted at any sign of positive momentum, and the team seemed to feed off the energy. Probably one of my favorite reactions came near the end of the game, when Theo John missed Rowsey on back-to-back outlet passes. As Theo headed to the bench with his head down, it wouldn't have been surprising to see less favorable reactions from the fans sitting near the bench. Instead, it seemed like that entire corner got off their seats to cheer him on and try to pick him up. I wasn't there to see this, but it was pretty cool to see (via twitter) how Rowsey left the court for the last time to the fans (mostly students) chanting his name despite a tough loss. If nothing else (aside from me realizing Big East refs may not be so bad after all), these last three games gave me an appreciation for the subgroup of very passionate fans ready for MU take a step forward next year.

One thing that puzzled us during the comeback last night was that Matt Heldt stayed in the game. We were talking about putting Elliott in to help make the press more effective with his length and quickness. At it was, Heldt was doing nothing on either end (though that was true the entire time he played last night). Meanwhile, Elliot was on the bench.

I was right behind this woman. She was Shep Garner's mom. I wanted to walk down the couple of aisles and tell her we appreciate you cheering for your son, but keep it classy. Obviously she had trouble with that.
Looked her up on Facebook. With all of the Facebook datamining out there, I would think all of her focused advertisements are for selfie sticks because she sure loves pictures of herself!
