No one from MU (thought Cain might make it). Ten from the BE 3 from Creighton, 2 from Nova, 2 from Xavier, 2 from Providence, 1 from Seton Hall).

Looks like the conference will add several strong 2 guard prospects. Greg Elliott will have many chances to prove he belongs.

Interesting quote from an Indianapolis paper:

Butler, according to the Indy Star, has the school’s best recruiting class coming in, headlined by Kyle Young, Christian David, Jerald Butler and Aaron Thompson.

As I mentioned on the premium board, not one of these guys is listed in the RSCI Top 100. I like the RSCI. But there are an awful lot of very talented players who never make the RSCI Top 100 and go on to have very good, even excellent, college careers.

If one looks at the top players returning to the BE this coming year, many did not make the Top 100 list on RSCI, such as Martin and Baldwin (Butler), Foster and Thomas (Creighton), Cain and McCallum (DePaul), Bullock and Cartwright (Providence), Carrington and Rodriguez (Seton Hall), and Macura (Xavier). All 11 of these players could be in contention for all-BE first team, second team, or honorable mention honors. The same could be true for DiVincenzo (Nova), which would make it an even dozen. And it wouldn't surprise me if Rowsey has a good enough year to end up in the running for all-conference recognition.

Other returning players who could or should make one of the all conference teams but did make RSCI Top 100 coming out of high school include Govan and Derrickson (G-Town), Markus (MU), Delgado (Seton Hall), LoVett and Ponds (St. John's), Brunson and Bridges (Nova), and Blueitt (Xavier).

I was curious, but it was back to 2006 when MU didn't have a recruit in the Top 100. That was the year after James, Wes and Jerel joined (and MU joined the Big East). Let's hope this group proves the experts wrong as some of our best players have.

BLT,

Actually MU did have a consensus Top 100 recruit in Lazar. He was Top 100 on Rivals, Hoopmasters, and PrepStars.

However, HoopScoop, which had him in their Top 10 among prep school players that year, always kept two separate lists - high school and prep school - but only the high school list counted for RSCI. But the other factor was that was the only year that Scout also kept separate prep school and high school lists, and, again, RSCI only took their high school list. The other sites all combined prep school and high school into one list.

Lazar would have been in the Top 60 on HoopScoop and probably Top 75 on Scout had both sites combined their lists. Those added points would have placed Lazar easily in the Top 80 on RSCI.

There was no doubt that Lazar was not only viewed as, but was, a Top 100 recruit in the Class of 2006. It was just a statistical quirk that he was not included that year.

By the way, Scout was not "Scout" back then. It was Dave Telep (DT). RH was Rob Harrington, which was weird since he also had input into PrepStars' rankings, which means he had a double say. Hoopmasters was Van Coleman, and HoopScoop was Clark Francis. There was no ESPN ranking at the time, and 247 did not even exist back then.

Thanks Phantom. I was looking for Lazar and forgot the Prep school footnote. Then it was 2004 since MU was shut out. That was the year of Kinsella, Amo, Barro (and Niv). With Final Four momentum, that was a reach class by Crean.

Actually, our only high school recruit in 2008 was Otule, who was nowhere near any Top 100 lists. We also got Fulce and Butler that same year from j.c.

MU signed but released Taylor and Williams though when Crean left.

Good point. Both made the final Top 100 list on RSCI.
