From Eric Bossi

If Deonte Burton were to show up at next weekend's Rivals 100 Five-Star Challenge in football, he would likely create quite the buzz. The 6-foot-5 native of Milwaukee is a physical freak of nature. He's powerfully built, has long arms and is an explosive athlete who plays strong. Burton will quickly be a fan favorite at hometown Marquette.

Man am I excited about this 2013 class. 3 quality home grown kids who are not only great players but who also love Marquette and Milwaukee!

I really think the excitement this class could bring to the city may help to convince other kids from the Milwaukee area (Looney, Stone, etc) that MU is the place to be.

Now with Chew on Buzz's staff, and building off the Milwaukee 3 and who ever else Buzz brings in, I have high hopes for the 2013 class. Hopefully these two classes, along with the success MU continues to have, will then set the stage for Diamond Stong in 2015. Keep Buzz here and happy!

Jeff Borzello: Kevon Looney playing well again today. Loved him at Pangos; solidified that today. Versatile offensive player, tough matchup at forward.

Jeff Borzello: Future Marquette teammates Deonte Burton and Duane Wilson teaming up here at NBPA Top 100 Camp. Both playing well, getting to the rim.

I thought I read somewhere that Looney doesn't seem to hang with the same group of friends that Burton, Wilson, and Stone do... That could be a bad thing in the end, hopefully the more of these events they go to the better they get to know each other.

WHOA. Great to hear. Every video I've seen has focused on Wilson's elite scoring ability, and every review I've read has said he needs some work to hone his PG skills. I really like seeing this, as it means he's clearly working on what he needs to be successful at the next level. Can't wait 'til these guys put on an MU uni!

BW4P, if that means Stone is hanging in the same group as Wilson and Burton I am more than fine with it. Looney is a one year stud but Stone could be a program changer

Goose85
06-15-2012, 02:25 PM
I don't worry too much about who hangs out. Stone is going to be a soph and Wilson / Burton are going to be seniors. Looney is going to be a junior. In high school, seniors generally hang with seniors, sophs with sophs, etc. While these guys may hang out on the AAU circuit, normally in high school you hang out with friends from your school, unless Milwaukee city schools are different.

Looney and Stone following the 2013 class could really be program changing.

Love Deonte Burton. Can do a lot of things. Finishes well, blocks shots, good in the mid-range game & creates his own shot.

Two big-time one-handed dunks from Deonte Burton in this game. Marquette is getting a good one.

Mike Young has had a great spring and is rapidly expanding his game and along with that his recruitment. Young was contacted in the last day by Pittsburgh, St. John’s, Xavier, Florida, Miami, Georgia Tech and Marquette, he told NBE.

The 6-foot-8 forward will attend St. Benedict’s Prep in Newark (NJ next fall. He is originally a native of Pittsburgh, PA.

Playing well in these settings in front of the various recruiting services will likely move Burton up in the rankings. That's all good as he is already enroute to MU. Worry about Looney as that will just invite the big boys to get more interested.

Duane Wilson, PG – Wilson has continued his very strong spring with a solid showing here. He was making shots, finishing around the rim, and then also giving good effort on the defensive end. Wilson can create for himself and others, and did so at a very nice level during the evening game

What thrills me is that we are becoming one of the destination programs in the Midwest. Ten years ago it was hard to imagine that a kid like Nunn would be more attracted to Marquette then Illinois because he believes our program to be better both in the present and future. Local kids, save Looney, look to be very content with staying home and building their hometown school into a national power. The smartest modern hoops people (guys like Matt Norlander and John Gasaway) believe that our program is on the cusp of big things and we could be putting out some amazing teams in the next few years. Just keep Buzz happy.

One camp team features junior PG Parker Jackson-Cartwright (Los Angeles, Calif./Loyola) and PG Duane Wilson (Milwaukee, Wisc./Dominican). PJC has superior vision and yes, he’s tiny, but he’s fearless. Wilson, since April, has improved with his shot selection and change of pace. Marquette has a good one and he’s tough.

Norlander in his Sweet 16 preview wrote that Marquette was a program ready to make the Final Four as a program and go from there. Gasaway has been high on Buzz from day one, and was impressed last year that the defense matched Buzz's always solid offense.
