Ike Eke Signs With Marquette Men’s Basketball Program

Prep standout claimed state title in Michigan as a junior

Milwaukee – Prep standout Ikechukwu (“Ike”) Eke (Detroit, MI/University of Detroit Jesuit HS) has signed a National Letter of Intent with the Marquette University men’s basketball program, head coach Steve Wojciechowski announced Wednesday morning.

Eke, 6-9, 220-pounder, will arrive on campus in the summer of 2017 and have four years of eligibility with the Golden Eagles.

“I have watched Ike develop since he was a young player at Detroit Jesuit and his constant development over those three years has been fun to watch and makes us believe that he has a chance to be a terrific player,” Wojciechowski said. “He is a great athlete for his size, has been well coached and will only get better because of his work ethic.

“Ike is a great kid who will be an asset to the Marquette community, both on and off the court,” Wojciechowski added. “We are thrilled to have Ike as part of our program.”

Eke helped University of Detroit Jesuit High School to the state title as a junior under head coach Patrick Donnelly, chipping in 9.8 points, 8.7 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per game while shooting 65.0 percent from the field. The Cubs were the fifth team in state history to finish the season undefeated and the championship was the first in program history.

Entering his fourth season of varsity competition, Eke has been a member of three Detroit Catholic League titles and the team has advanced to the state semifinals every season during his tenure as well. A two-time all-state and all-city honoree, Eke and the Cubs are hoping to become the first team to win five-straight league titles.

On the AAU circuit, Eke has competed for The Family Detroit.

Marquette’s 2017 class includes Eke, Jamal Cain (Pontiac, MI/ Cornerstone Health & Technology HS) and Theo John (Minneapolis, MN/Champlin Park HS). The class, which features a trio of players taller than 6-7, adds some much-needed size to the roster.

“We are so excited about the addition of Jamal, Theo and Ike to the Marquette men’s basketball program,” Wojciechowski said. “Not only are they great kids, but they will also add to the size and athleticism of our roster. Each young man shown a strong desire to get better and a commitment to being a great teammate.”
