Milwaukee Announces Jeter Will Not Return As Men’s Basketball Coach

Panthers to begin national search for new coach immediately

MILWAUKEE (March 17, 2016) - Milwaukee Director of Athletics, Amanda Braun announced today that Rob Jeter will not return as the Panthers’ Head Men’s Basketball Coach.

“Rob has always put the interests of our student-athletes first and has represented our program and the university with class over the last 11 years. I thank him and his staff for their contributions,” Braun said. “After a thorough review, I have decided that a change in leadership of our men’s basketball program is needed to help us achieve our goal of consistently being a top program in the Horizon League.”

Jeter compiled a 185-170 overall record in eleven seasons at the helm. The Panthers finished third or higher in the Horizon League regular season standings twice in the last ten seasons and have not accomplished the feat since 2011-12.

“As we begin the process of searching for a new head coach, we will identify candidates who believe in our mission, possess high character and integrity and have a proven track record of continued success,” Braun said.

A national search will begin immediately for Milwaukee’s next head men’s basketball coach.

Some seem mad and others are happy. Should be interesting how this plays out. I will still be renewing my season tickets.

TJ should be the guy that get's the job. Local ties and has done a great job recruiting kids from this area to Iowa State.

This is a huge hire for all of UWM athletics. Miss and there goes 5 years of no interest, get a guy that has you ready for NIT and possible league titles / NCAA and it can completely transform UWM athletics.

With the Admirals and the WCD putting money into the arena, the facility will be a pretty good one as far as college teams go. Add an exciting team with a coach that is building the program and people may show up.

The arena is ALREADY good now, with new HD Jumbrotron from 2 years ago, new side videoboards boards and this summer is phase 3 of replacing all the seats. It will be even better in what the Admirals and the WCD will be doing.

I'm going to avoid saying whether or not I prefer TJ Otzelberger or any other candidate, but on the surface it looks like a slam dunk of a hire. You get a home town kid, with his family still here, played at Whitewater, point guard, great recruiter on a national scale. He recruited players Iowa State never got under McDermott. Hard hitter on the transfer recruiting trail, he's gotten how many Marquette guys who left that program?

None. He was at Washington when both McKay and Burton transferred.
