What purpose does this do on January 10th?

To answer my question in what Gary Parrish wrote, "The money people are ready for a change and that's why it happened now"

Overdue, Rice was terrible.

Yes, he did little with a great deal of talent.

It really does no harm, nor is it particularly helpful. I can see why UNLV wanted to get it over and done though.

DeCourcy makes good points but regardless I think it was a good move. Odd timing, but then again if UNLV knew he wouldn't survive anyway, may as well just cut ties now. Who knows, this could flip a switch that saves their season. They weren't going anywhere with Rice in charge. Worth a shot. Plus now they can focus in on potential coaching candidates without doing it behind Rice's back.

In season firings seem to be more the trend in college sports these days.

I don't think Bo would be interested, but then again, he went after the Arizona gig hard a few years back so who knows.

Too soon? That was three years ago.

I don't really understand DeCourcy's points. Yeah Rice is a nice guy. He will be compensated according to the terms of his contract. He isn't entitled to a job though.

I really don't think he wants to be done coaching (despite the look on his face during games, I think he enjoys it), his wife wants out of the Madison area, and Bo does like golfing which is almost year round in Vegas.
Who knows, if it looks like Gard doesn't get the UW gig, maybe Bo says I'll take Vegas for 5 years if Gard is my coach in waiting.

He has a house out there right? I mean, if you are UNLV, you have to at least make that phone call right?

If Bo takes the UNLV job, you can take the Running out of Running Rebels.

Bo going to UNLV would be epicly hilarious. I would love, absolutely love to see the seething outrage from the West if that were to happen.

Well, that might just get the facts out into the public eye. Some of the spurned posse just might turn on him, and in a New York second.
